So as i had been reading about achieving higher displacement in our engines i was under the impression that if we STROKE our engines then we cannot rev higher then 7500 or so (relative to how crazy you are and how long you want your engine to last). Now i have just purchased a 4g64 from slowboy with fully built internals. Am i still going to be limited to the amount of rpms i can safely run. Or does this block have the same issues of a 2.3 stroker where the crank is changing the angle of the piston as it travels on its extended stroke. Any answers are greatly appreciated.

If your 4G64 has the stock 150 mm rods it has the same 1.50 rod ratio as the 2.3L stroker. With the same geometry as the 2.3L stroker it will have the same limitations.

If you have stroker pistons and 156 mm rods the rod ratio will be slighter better at 1.56.

See the chart at http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/str...acement-various-combinations-bore-stroke.html for other combinations and the effect on peak acceleration.

However, the pistons dont have the oil ring halfway into the wrist pin, so no problems from that. I wouldnt be to concerned about running it to 7500. You should be fine there.

Mahle stroker pistons don't have the exposed oil ring like wisecos. I was very impressed with the mahle stroker piston. So that is not a valid point unless you are dead set on running some type of piston.

ROSS, Weisco and JE have the oil ring in the wrist pin. The MAhle must have very tight spacing between the rings and closer to the top of the piston.

What do you rev yours to?

I havent revved mine past 7500.. I mainly keep it down due to piston speeds. A 2.0 revving at 9k is similar in piston speed to a 2.3 revving to 7.5k and my rotating assembly wasn't balanced. the stroker still makes awesome power right after the shift so I really don't need to rev that high.

The mahle piston is really a nice option. Super light, awesome material, coated, and I loved the oil ring design being inside the piston all the way around.

Yea. Im spending the extra money to put the girdle on my 2.4 and getting it fully balanced. Worth it in the end.

Ya for sure. I might do a different set up. It would be just time for me to rip it back down and get it balanced. I just didnt have the tools I have now when I was building my block.

How many miles do you have on your stroker setup john? I have my stroker block almost finished, it will be balanced, kiggly girdle, etc, and im still just going to use the stock rev limit.

Judging by the 2.3's ive rode in so far, I wouldn't even need to rev any higher than stock limit because my tranny has evo gears and a taller 5th so im not too worried about going any higher.

It seemed like my friends stroker revving out to 8k in second and shifting into third, did not have the same "steam" as when he got into third a little sooner in the band, but i guess thats power curve dependant, his 16g seems to make power really early and cut-out early.

So to the OP, its really your choice but strokers make power and torque early so that should let you know what you can rev to.

edit: also saw john you went to the hx-40?? thats going to be a mean torque hit..What kind of tranny do you have?) thanks

I daily my car at least 60 miles a day during school. I got it done in June and I think I have put at least 6-7k miles. I seriously do not stop making power when I shift. I was flowing 50 lb min at 7.1k and climbing. I actually shift on the streets earlier than the 7.5k limit when I am tuning. It is a TRE stage 2 pretty much basic. I seriously put that turbo on yesterday so I haven't had alot of time to mess with it but so far it was rippin pretty good. Full boost around 4.2k... I need to do a boost leak test because I blew up my home depot 4in boost leak tester. I am sure I can get it closer to 4k.

edit.. Damnit I am on Allens account at the shop LOL.. this is Viperlp01.

hehe yeah i figured it was you, Im sure your running a 272 or 275 right? 4000 full spool would be the mark to hit, if or when you get your car tuned and hit your mark, id be gracious if you sent me a log so I can base my spool timing off what yours is for when i throw this stroker in with my 6-blade 40.
sorry to be offtopic
