Can you paint sparkplug wires??

Just wondering if you spray paint a new pair of plug wires (making sure to tape the terminals up) if anything will change as far as performance or workability?

(trying to match up some engine components)

The paint probably won't stick for long. Spray paint dries into a hard layer. As soon as go bend the wires to connect them back up, they'll start to flake.

You're better off buying an aftermarket set in the color you want.

Painting them will maybe look good for a few days, but combine the heat cycles in the engine bay with the flexibility of the wires... Its gonna look like crap.

Your best bet is try to buy some that looks close to the preferred color you want. As much as I don't like eBay, they have some that look great on my car.

Colored tape, just wrap em, even though i would never try to do something like that.

Just leave them alone ,my buddy tried painting his sparkplug wires on his civic & it started to flake off because of the heat

i painted mine black and they looked and work fine to me! just do em while there off the car! and use the motor paint stuff ### that can take hot temps!!

Why would you paint something that is rubber and flexible?
There is now way it will last longer than a week of them getting hot and cold again.
Not to mention when you need to take them off, they will probably flake and stick all over your hands.

It will flake off, when i bought my civic the previous owner done exactly what you want to do, looks like crap, its flaked off and looks horrible. But I could careless its my DD

It won't work like stated above paint dries hard and as soon as you bend them the paint will crack I did paint work for 3 years and never used anything that would be flexible enough

What color are you looking for? You could always use wire sleeves.

haha he's smart,i forgot about that, but where could u find em? and most spark plug wires when u buy em come in different colors anyway,id just ask if they come in a different color?

Summit Racing has a few brands. Search for "wire and hose sleeves" in part type. Depends on how much you want to spend. You might be able to get the right color wires for the cost of the wrap.

I used heat shrink tubing.. loves the heat Wire sleeves should work also

I guess my only question is...why? I suppose you could, but as everyone pointed out it's probably not the best idea. don't cheap out. just buy the right stuff. and if they don't have lime green or bright orange or whatever odd color you might want, try to pick a color scheme thats a little more practical.


...or I suppose you could use some kinda loom/shrink tubing as well

If you decide that you want to save some money and use wire loom.......................

Don't over do it, use it on your plug wires and put the rest back in the package. You dont have to use it all in one setting. As you can see this person got the correct colored plug wires but i'm just showing ya that to much is just exactly that some times
