is there a paint for seats?im not very fond of the paerns on the seats and want to make em flat black. if not the whole seat, just the middle. you guys know any good places online? thanks

Ive seen VHT (good company) and dupli-color make a paint called vinly and fabric dye, it says on the can that you can spray any fabric and they stress that its a dye and not a paint. I'd look for the VHT one and follow directions closely

does vht have a web page???thanks

Do not paint your seat or dye it with vinyl dye. It WILL rub off. if you want to change the patern, go to an interior shop and have them replace the section of seat.

funny this is brought up. I actually just did my factory grey seats black with the dupli-color dye for fabic. Got it at advanced for like $5 a can or so. It says to clean the material with water and regular soap and take a white damp towel to rid of soap and etc dirt... Well i took the entire seat material off" which i dont say to do cause its a pain in the ass to get back on right" but i did this.. cleaned and let sit for 8 hours or so to fully dry... then started with the dye. Did thin layers and repeated till the seat were covered. I even went the next step and got Dupont*sp* to spray the seats for help with wear - fade - and if water or god knows what else was spilt. Let the seats sit for little less then 24 hours " which is well beyond what the can says " and..... it still faded  go figure huh...not to bad i noticed it was more where your butt moves around that it faded the most. One good thing.. It did not come off on cloths etc... Took about 2 1/2 cans per seat. The fade is not horrible i am leaving them for now.. I did mine black so it might be better with anothe color.. ill try and get some pics and post tomorrow or so..
later

Don't use paint, find a dye.

I almost pooped myself reading "spray paint seats" glad someone jumped on this QUICK! LOL... Ya find a dye... they are cheap and effective. OR go spend a few extra bucks (well quite a bit) and get some nice custom ones.

I used the bright red color over some black plastic. It worked very well. I'll be dying my seats with it at the end of the month. Thats the main reason I bought it. My seats faded and I wanted to try dying them before I had them apholstered.....

your best bet would be to learn to sew, take the seat covers off, get some cloth in the color you want, and cut it to match the seams (with a little overlap for sewing) and sew it up. That would be the cheapest way to get custom seat covers... you could even take them to be embroidered if you wanted...

But a lot of people can't, or won't learn to sew... next option... go get some GOOD fabric dye... again, take the seat covers off, use the dye that you soak the cloth in for X hours(like Rit or some such thing, you can find them at any walmart with a fabric section, or Michaels, most craft stores, etc...) Follow the instructions, you'll soak it in a washer usually, and after however many hours (don't remember) you run it like a load of wash, then you dry it to set the dye completely, and you're done, and it will be much less likely to fade than that spray on stuff.

As far as the spray on stuff goes, I've used it on my charger's interior. Works good on some parts, bad on others. I've got a '72 dodge charger that was an ugly burnt orange/gold color, with matching puke colored interior... I put black headliner and carpet in, took out the dash and sprayed all the metal with black rattlecans... but there was still the issue of the vinyl/plastic trim pieces... se we used the Vinyl Dye... I think by Duplicolor or something (this was a while ago... probably 2 years?) and sprayed the door panels, the steering wheel, and all the trim pieces. Whis is what I've found. The color does tend to rub off. If it's an area you aren't going to touch, then it works well, and looks good. The steering wheel has almost completely rubbed off though. Haven't tried it on fabric as the seats needed uphulstry work.

I wouldn't reccomend this product if you have an alternate method (get some cheap seat covers?)

I Used Dupli-color vinyl/fabric spray.

I sprayed it in probably in june/july. People use my backseat fairly often, or else there is junk floating around back there. So far i have seen no fading or scraping. Ive tried to scrape it off with my fingernails before, and its still on there. It flexes with the fabric so it doesn't crack or anything.

Now i just need to get rid of the dang grey seatbelts and find some black ones.
