Can i put the FP 8cm Turbine Housing on a 14b? :)

Hey fellow DSM'rs i know everyone goes with a 7cm / .70AR turbine housings for there 14b. My questions is what would be the big deal with putting an 8cm FP exhaust turbine housing on a 14b. I dont care if its a waste of time or money i just want to know what would be the pros and cons of a 8cm exhaust housing.

Also im having problems boost creeping on my t25. i have the FP manifold and full 3" straight pipe. stock o2 housing. It usually only happens in 5th gear if i try and do a pull the boost gauge goes to 15 then slowly wants to creep up to 18 and it will fuel cut.

PS: sorry for the noob post x.x
 
The only issue is you would have to modify your internal wastegate to fit around the 8cm exhaust housing.

Many of the fastest 14b cars ran their best times on the stock 6cm housing, it's still debatable that the 7cm is even worth any significant gains on it. I'd be surprised if the 8cm added anything other than lag. You're not going to increase compressor flow, at 20+psi you're basically hitting choke flow on a 14b as soon as you're at full boost, this is why boost falls off by 6k when you run a small turbo at high boost. The larger hotside would theoretically allow more exhaust flow which might increase VE a bit, but given the RPM range where the 14b should be used, I don't see the point unless you're building a max effort setup. Also, a 7cm housing is not .70 AR.

It's creeping because you have full 3" exhaust and a stock o2 housing. You need to give the wastegate passage more flow if you want to hold lower boost, either by porting the wastegate hole and o2 housing, or running a tubular o2, or external dump tube.

For a 14b? You don't need anything shoot just porting the stock housing would be good enough LOL.
 
Choke flow means the compressor physically can not move more air through it.

VE is volumetric efficiency. It is the ratio of the volume of air that enters the cylinder to the volume of displacement. A piston engine can get 40-50% to above 100% of the swept volume of the cylinder into it while naturally aspirated. Above 100% is achieved through inertia of the air charge and pulse tuning of the exhaust and intake manifolds. That's the way I always understood it anyway. I think there are more technical definitions that don't allow for more than 100% without a super/turbocharger, but for that definition Wikipedia agrees with me (whatever that's worth to you)

It seems like the 6cm puts you in the sweet spot in the compressor map for choke flow on a 2.0 DSM. It's probably why so many records were set with it. If you had a 2.3 or a 2.4 it might change. A 14b on a 2.3/2.4 would be pointless though.

Choke flow is basically the point where the turbo stops increasing airflow with RPM. VE is volumetric efficiency, which is the key to maximizing power for a given setup. Things like cams, porting, larger turbine housings, sheetmetal intake manifolds, etc can increase it - giving you more power for a given compressor wheel size. Certain things will push the powerband to higher RPMs, which will not work well with a smaller turbo setup like a 14b, you want to match the parts to the RPM range you plan to run.

If you're planning to run an 8cm housing, you should be expecting to run the boost at a level where you wouldn't need to port the wastegate hole or run a larger flapper. You might also consider FP's 18psi actuator for it.
 
*My Situation
Right now i dont have a hotside... its a 14b i have all in peices and the hotside was a gnarly cracker. Im sanding buffing and polishing the compressor housing then ordering exhaust housing and a o2 housing.

*My plan
Have a really nice 14b for awhile to play around with till i am ready for fuel mods (probly after smog comes up) and i would like to have a nice ported exhaust housing and o2 housing that i can slap on a 16g when i get one.

So say i want to run 18psi without porting the wastegate hole.... then it will not creep anymore?/

Is it bad if i have my wastegate hole ported when im running higher boost?

Also i saw your Signature for FP manifold heat sheilds and Man i need one of those for smog!!!
 
Get the 8cm housing and FP actuator and that will work for both 14b and 16g. And no, you probably won't have to port it, and I don't think you'd creep on the bigger 8cm housing. You'll have to find out yourself as there isn't really anyone running the 8cm housing on a 14b or 16g.
