Hey I was just wondering if I could swap my 1999 eclipse gs 5 speed 420a into a non turbo awd? And if so what do I need and how much? Would like to turbo her down the road but not at the moment. Thanks!

You can mount the rear suspension from the awd car to your car, but there is no transmission that you can that will allow you to do this.

Solution
Can you convert your car into an AWD, yes. Is it worth the enormous cost of doing so, no.

Its easier to just buy a gsx.

One of the main hurrdels is that the frame rails are difrent. The right rail on the 420a is straight were as the gst and gsx are humped for the trans. The 420a trans is on the left side so the left frame is humpped. So if u are up to alot work for no reason and buying gsx parts. Save ## self time and money and get a gsx. So instead of modifing a gs to be gsx, u could be driving sooner if u just buy a gsx.

Or u can get gst that can be changed over to a gsx.

Every gsx I see for sale is auto it sux
First, learn to spell; you're not 12.

Second, auto transmissions never break. I would never have a problem with an auto.

Ok just because my iPhone autocorrects my words doesn't mean u have to be a dick because one word was spelled wrong and I'm no retarded I know autos are more sturdy but my preference is manual.

Your iphone is failing at teaching you proper grammar & punctuation. That above sentence has more than one word misspelled.

Do more searching please. I have seen about 4 of your threads in the last 48 hrs & I have shaken the hell out of my head that my neck is starting to hurt. The info is there. You aren't even trying. Develop a budget. But before that, stop playing hooky in English class.

what? why would you waste your time? both of these projects seem like a waste of time.. if your gunna turbo it.. turbo it but since you have a GS and they arnt that expensive, get one with a manual and if you want AWD get a GSX. Just my opinion.

Really? I'm sure your phone doesn't give your down syndrome; but I digress.

If that's your preference I would just put up a wtb add and look at near by states, most of us drive to buy our cars.

False! Kp116's auto trans broke this past season! Course he's running well into the 9s. LOL Just givin ya shit!

i bought my car 1 1/2 hours away from me. was also considering a gst down in jersey that was 6 hours away. its so worth it though.

Consider yourself lucky. I am up here in Alaska...and I have no such options. If I want to go out of state I have to take about a week of work off + plane ticket down.

I drove 3 hours last week just to pick up a new air compressor. :(

I thought i read somewhere once about the AWD caravans being a possibly viable option for an AWD swap for a 420A.

I'm not saying bolt on and go, but i remember reading somewhere someone was looking into it.

why though? What's the point of doing all the labor on a poorly built motor when you can buy a gsx?

If we got the money and the time. Why not.

Because you lack the skills and the money for it. There's no point, no gain; but I digress.

Nice to see you're a "4g63 killer" on a 140hp car..

This is my last post, i'm done with getting warnings.

Because people like there cars and want to build them. There is no other reason needed. And i get so damn tired of people always saying "just sell it and buy a GSX". Have you maybe forgotten the forum rule saying to not do exactly that?

Answer the question or GFTO.
