I'm trouble shooting rebuilding my engine on my 93 talon ES 2 litre. Non turbo. Engine was rebuilt by previous owner. Have engine all apart and it seems it's a 1.8 head, 1.8 block and pistons but has 2 litre camshafts.
Is this possible?

The 1.8L 4g37 is a SOHC engine. The 2.0L 4g63 is a DOHC. Aside from that, a 4g63 camshaft cannot be used in the 4g37.

The 1.8L and 2.0L engine blocks are very similar in construction. The cylinder head is a great indicator. If you're still confused, post a picture of your cylinder head and we will identify it.

That is definitely a 4g63 camshaft in your photo though, so we can assume your engine is a 4g63.

Thank you, I should take more time before posting questions. With a little more scratching my head and searching I figured it out. My 4G67 is the same motor as the 93-95 Electra so found the right parts. Thanks for your quick reply.

It actually is a 4G67 motor and although the shaft looks quite similar, it is not from a 4G63. It from Hyundai G4CN which is the same engine as the 4G67.

Interesting. The 4g67 is a 1.8L, by the way. I wonder why it ended up in a Talon. Still a great engine, and even more comparable to the 4g63 than the 4g37.

It can be a task, memorizing all specifications of the XgXX engines. Comparable to doing so with Honda's B, D, F, H, J, and K series engines.

Some do that when they can't source a 4g63 long block or accidentally, like some people don't even notice that it's a 4g67 when they buy it from a local junk yard, since the 4g67 looks the same as the 6 bolt 4g63. They are internally different, smaller bore diameter and smaller combustion chamber in the cylinder head.
