Cams For My Set Up?

hey folks, my mods are,Jdm stock engine,Big 16g, 3 inch turbo back, 255lph, fmic, 2g manifold, 660 injectors, maf delete, running 3 inch pipe off turbo runnig MAP, dsmlink v3, greddy electronic boost controller, aem wideband, boost guage, venting to atmosphere. my upgrades are going to be. header with external wastegate, and a head build. i got bad lifter tick and i think its causing my car to read knock. while im in there im gona do headgasket, valves, springs, retainers. lifters. and all that. what kind of cams should i go with? im going with HKS.. what lift size should i get? 272 272? or 264 272?. thanks.

id go with 272's but if you want the lopes to be less aggresive when the car is in idle then go with the 264/272 setup....

look into DKS cams or FP cams. just a little cheaper. DKS are mirrors from HKS. that's what i'll be using.

Well considering thats a mivec engine I dont see that workin out so well

You get one or the other buddy. You can build a setup that has both but he tune will play a factor in that as well.

What turbo do you want to run, what boost levels do you want to see on that turbo, and what rpm do you want to rev to? All of those play a factor in it.

Larger cams will shift your powerband to higher rpms. in short you will be trading some of your bottom end for top end power.

when you say JDM engine swap... are you just sitting on a 7 bolt with a cyclone intake and 16g or what... evo 3 blocks wont drop in a 1g. not that it matters much, all you would get is 9:1 compression.

in anycase if your looking to not have a major loss in the bottom end and keep the stock redline the 264cams are a good upgrade to help keep the power from dropping off.
272s would be the upgrade if your ready for a bit more sacrifice and want to rev it a bit higher. I know you are going to have the head off because of lifter tick anyway, just remember if you keep the stock or even 8k redline you dont need to go too crazy with the head build. most will tell you a healthy head will live forever on 264's and stock redline.

if you do the 272's get some cam gears and properly degree your cams. the larger than stock overlap will cost you on the bottom end and is really not beneficial to turbo engines the majority of the time.

also while you head is off you may wish to enlarge the taper on the main oiling feed between the block and the head. this has shown to greatly reduce the likelihood of lifter tick. read up on that and see if its something you want to do.

272s are an all around good cam not to big not to small... know plenty of people running these with very good results

what would be the good rpm to shift at with cams, ? im gona have a decked out head.. with stock bottom end. i dont wanna blow it up anytime soon after the head buld .

im runnign BC 272s with headstuds being my only internal mod, stock springs/retainers i love how well it pulls in the topend and everyone drools over the cam lope at idle haha

back in the day i had 1g awd with pf2 cams (not degreed) and a 20g. this was an amazing street setup. personally i didnt think it was too laggy at all. now my hx40 setup and BC280's was pushing the street ability to me.

anyways, i say go with the 272's. i wouldnt think you would loose too much bottom end and i know that you will gain ALOT of topend. i would shift at around 8k with this setup.

My buddy has almost the exact set up as you except he has 750cc injectors, he has the BC 272/272's and its is an awesome street car, it fully spools 24lbs very quickly!
