Cam sensor Plugs??!!

I have a bad Cam sensor on my 90 TSI. I bought a Cam Sensor off ebay, supposed to be new, but wasnt of course . The sensor I bought had the same connector as the one on the harness to the car??!! WTF >> is it safe to splice the wires from the new cam sensor to my old plug so I can plug it in, or is this a sensor for a different year?? It is the pigtail style and it is the male plug with a purple box around the connection in the plug. If anyone can shed some light on this thing I would appricate it.

I have done this with success, I would imagine you would be okay to do it. I think the difference lies in whether it is a turbo or non turbo donor car, but they are the same sensor.

Actually it's a '90 vs later cars issue. They made a bunch of changes in the second year of production and switching to CAS, TPS, and ISCs with connectors on them and the longer engine harnesses to reach these was part of the changes. I'd hit up the junkyard and cut out the part of the harness needed to run the wires to the CAS. Either splice it into your harness ro use the old one and it to make an adaptor.
