Hey smart guys, just wanting some recommendations on what a good cam would be for my set up, current mods are obx tubular mani, ported megan racing o2 to 3" downpipe-exhaust, apexi intake, Punishment front mount, greddy type rs bov, FIC 650's, 190lph waly, exedy stage 2 racing clutch, prolite flywheel, link v3, aem uego wideband, hallman pro mbc, and ported evo3 big 16g but I'm currently looking into bigger, maybe holset or 60-1 and I know that when I do go bigger the stock cams are going to choke out at higher rpms, so I'm i need of guidance with new cams...thanx-Gary

Some people may disagree but I love Brian Crower 272's. Its a solid cam.

I run Delta Camshaft cams on mine. Not sure on the prices anymore but when I got mine I got the pair for $190 and they are HKS 272 grind.

Please upgrade your valve springs as well when you do this regardless of what the specs may say is safe or not.

that was kinda the plan, Having never upgraded or even looked into cams or vavletrain I have no clue on decent pricing thats why I was asking about the extreme psi deal, as it is brian crower 272's with valvesprings and retainers for $550

a very well known dsm guy that owns a shop down here and ive trusted his opinion ever since ive known him,has stated that you can run a 272/272 without upgrading your vave springs. Anything higher than that lobe and youll have to upgrade.Thats been 3 years now that ive run 272/272 and no damage to my head. Not saying that it cant happen but i trust what he says.

im also a brian crower lover, i have BC 272s , they are great if you dont plan to upgrade springs

His information is vague as most companys their ramp and lift rate is low enough that stock spring pressure is fine for stock rev limiter. If you plan on goin higher than 7500 rpm then you want upgraded springs, if you want re assurance, get new springs.

Kelford 272s are like most companys 280s or higher so you need to know the numbers before saying you can run stock springs.

whats your power goals?

Well, being a dsmer, my poweer goals started out low, but after afew mods we all know how the rest of the story goes LOL there is always going to be a desire for more but I would say probably somewhere in the 350-400 mark, the car has 96,000 miles on it, so I dont know how that plays into the whole "spring" situation, It is looking like I will for probably go for the crowers as it save me from shopping around for springs and retainers thanks for all the info guys keep it comin!

BogusSVO is a well respected machinist on these forums. He has tested many, many sets of stock valve springs and has yet to find a set to reach the min. service requirements. With that being said, I would upgrade the Springs. Springs themselves are not to expensive (BC 70 bucks), On the otherhand the light titanium retainers are a bit pricey. If you are not going to rev high at all, stock rev or so, you can use just the BC springs with stock retainers until you decide to purchase the retainers at a later date if desired. These are just some choices you have if funds are limited. I would also like to encourage you to replace your lifters along with your new set of cams. 3g lifters (revised) is what I replaced mine with. Worn lifters on New Cam lobes is just to much of a risk in my OP. On to the cams I would, and have purchased the Regrinds from Delta camshafts. The customer service from this place is outstanding and I got a free t-shirt with my order. I went with the DHKS272 and have yet to get the car back together but I am stoked to try out these cams. Keltalon was doing a test on the delta cams but ran into a lot of dificulties during the process and was unable to finish, but these cams show a lot of promise and many others have proved them. I would not recommend the Kelfords as they have a very large duration and require some nice springs($). The price of the HKS272 regrind is $250 ($125 per cam grind) and a $60 Deposite ($30 per cam core). You will receive the $60 after they receive your cores. Hope this helps and if you have any questions feel free to ask.
