I don't know how this even happens. But the other night I was driving at about 3-4k rpms and I hit a bump. The car acted like it popped a coupler so I popped the hood and saw my timing cover was cracked. I looked and somehow the bolt that holds the gear to the cam sheered off along with the dowell pin on the cam. Fml. So now I will probably be buying new valves and while I'm at it just get dual springs and titanium retainers. Question here is the head was brand new rebuilt Like 7k ago do you think I could get stock valves and just use lapping compound and lap the valves myself so I can save some money???? I'm just broke and that sounds like a good idea to me while I'm at it I need a new exhaust cam so I was thinking about getting kelford 272's. Sorry for writing a book of a post :)

Yeah I am going to pull the head as soon as I can I hope the damage isn't too bad but it was at a low rpm. When I swapped cams I torqed the bolts to spec but I'm not positive I used locktite... Damnit I just got it running better and was planning a bigger turbo LOL I'm getting a clear cam gear cover this time so I can see what's going on without pulling the cover. I pray it's not too bad.

Thanks bogus. I haven't pulled the head but I am going to get the cam fixed and I think first I will just re time it and do a compression test before I pull the head. I'm sure I have some bent valves but I might as well just see before I pull the head off and have to buy more parts. It would be cool if compression was good but I'm sure something will be wrong.IMO it's worth a shot.

well it be quicker at this point just to pull the cam out, then inject compressed air into the cylinder then listen at the TB (bent int valves) then at the tail pipe (bent exhaust)

+1, you gotta take the cam out anyway.
Cylinder leak down test is what he's referring to, Make sure the tested cylinder's piston is at TDC when doing so.

Also, the cylinder that's being tested needs to have it's piston at TDC of the intake stroke, not TDC of the exhaust stroke.

since the chance is very high the valves are bent, you really do not need the leak down tester.
what I explained is a "quick test"
get an oil deflouler and screw an air tool fitting into it and just run shop air into the cylinder. some compression tester hoses already are built with the same style of fitting as air tools.

with both cams out, it will not matter the stroke it is on. All the valves will be close at that time.

So I finally got my head pulled off the valves were pretty bad but pistons were okay.I am going to order a reman head and all of the gaskets. As for the cams 1 had a busted off dowell pin and broken off bolt in it and the other had a scratched up lobe.I contacted Delta Cam on the forum which is where they were originally from and John hooked me up with an awesome price! All I have to say is he is a HANDSOME BASTARD! LOL So once I get her running I will let you guys know.PS I got a new job that has a E85 station on the way there ;) I'm pretty sure a e85 tune is going to happen soon :)
