Hey guys and gals, im getting my first dsm and im stumped on what tranny to go with  . I've heard good about both. I just would like to know what everyones take is thanks.

Whatever you prefer or whatever you get a killer deal on. There is nothing wrong with an auto.

Auto is fun and all for a little while, cool that it holds boost through shifting, but 5spds are just so much more fun. I'm A/t and im getting ready to do the manual swap. I think you will end up wanting a 5spd

It all depends, what are your goals for the car? Autos as stated already get more consistent times on drag strip, but if you want to do it slammin through the gears, manual is what you should get.

Well i prefer a manual always have, but ive found a 91 gsx auto for under 2k. But also found a manual tsi and a gsx for alittle over 3k. The only thing that concerns me is that the sales post for the auto says it needs tlc.

my first car was a 97 M/T GS that i romped around on in highschool, being a M/T is what made that N/A car fun. Wanting to upgrade to the 4g63 side of the DSM i looked and looked and could only find A/T GS-T's in the condition i was really looking for (grandma driven with low miles). Well i had to settle for the A/T to get it in the condition i wanted and started modifying her. Im not sure what your plans for the car are but for the fact that your on this "tuner" website im going to assume your going to modify it. For awhile a good friend and i had the same mods, same car, his was M/T and i was A/T. With a mbc (16psi), intake, and catback exhaust i ran a 10.2 in the 1/8th and he ran a 9.7... after that I started to heavily modify my car (see profile) and just recentily i swapped in a manual AWD setup onto it and couldn't be more pleased. I can actually feel what my cars doing and make it react the way i want it to...
unless you spend more modifying your A/T than you do in engine parts and go fast stuff you'll never be able to drag your A/T like you could a manual. more consistant E/T times yes but at the expense of slow sloppy shifting and burning up your tranny brake boosting. maintenance on an A/T is a lot more involved as well, all these things i would consider before you purchase that A/T DSM.
i love my DSM when it was a A/T GST but i have to tell you, I love it even more now as a M/T GSX. :rocks::hellyeah::thumb:

Nothing wrong with A/T. It ends up costing you about the same in modifying your M/T as it does A/T. Sure it doesn't provide you that feel that you control the car like a M/T does but it will give you consistent ET's and you keep boost through shifts. If you mod your transmission and keep up general maintenance your shifting wont be sloppy or slow like gofer stated. But hey it's all in personal preference. I personally love my auto, but I have never owned a M/T DSM.

I absolutely hate these threads almost as much as any type of venting threads. Get what YOU want, not what other people think.

well i bought mine last october and im glad i got a manual, kids at school were like, it better be a manual and i said it was and they said cool. i like shifting but if you live in a big city then maybe a auto would be better for you so you dont have to keep on shifting every couple of seconds. but if you do want a manual and sttle for an auto, later on you can also do a change or swap or whatever there called where you change the transmission

The thing is, it doesn't matter what other people think of your car, in your case kids at school, but still in the end it comes down to what YOU, yourself, the person controlling your body thinks. Not some kid you probably wont even see after school is over.
