i don't know autos for beans, but i do know electronics.. does the oem OD switch kind of "click on" "click off" (like, you push it and it stays down) or does it just pushi t once OD on, push it again OD off and each position looks identical?

if the positions look the same, the switch should most likely be a momentary pushbutton (or toggle, if you prefer) rather than an on/off toggle

*shrug*
just to think about

I think the stock switch works like this;

When pushed in (on) the signal/power goes to the transmission and activates the OD.

When pushed out (off) the signal/power goes to the I/P dash light and the trasmission deactivates the OD.

The toggle switch that was installed is a simple on/off switch with 3 prongs on the back (ground/power/sorce). Therefore when it is in the (on) position the signal/power is going to both the transmission (activates OD) plus the I/P (turns on "O/D OFF" light). When it is in the (off) position there is zero signal/power output.

A toggle switch that diverts the signal/power to 2 seperate outputs is needed. I stopped at Radio Shack and they didn't have any "A/B" type switches that would work. Any ideas?

BTW....The car is actually owned by my son ("turbot96" on DSMtuners). He had been using my screen name but is now a DSMtuners member.

That mod looks incredible. I've been thinking about a similar mod lately and I'm glad someone did it already so I know it can be done! I'm not trying to look like a manual but that big dildo is so ugly and must be replaced.

I don't know much about wiring, but if you keep the switch wiring intact from the stock toggle button housing and just remove the cap over it -- maybe replace with a smaller one and relocate -- shouldn't it function the same as before? Did you just cut the wires and decide to fab your own switch? Have you checked a chiltons or haynes manual to see if it has anything on the o/d...for example diagnosing it if it stops working? Might give a clue on just how it really operates.

By the way, I'm clear on the knob and the boot can be had at momo or wheelskins, but where to get the plastic retaining ring? Must I scour scrapyards to find this one component?

It can probably be ordered from Satan (dealer) or like you said, scour some scrapyards. FYI, the stock boot has slits cut into it that some flanges on the plastic retainer fit into. The boot and plastic ring might come as one (pre-assembled) piece from the dealer but I'm not sure.

I haven't looked at the boots from Momo or Wheelskins so I don't know if they are a direct replacement for the stock boot or not (have slits cut in them).
