Buying a head with no cam gears; how to do the swap?

Just take off the 17mm bolt that holds the cam gear to the cam then you can take off the gear. There is a hex cast into the cam so you can hold it with a wrench so it does not turn.

Exactly, it really is that simple.

Well I was wondering should I loosen the bolts with the timing belt still on it or not?Would that make it easier or can I take them off after I pull the head? I don't have an aire wrench or impact wrench.

I did it with the timing belt still on (broke the torque but didn't take the bolt off with the belt on of course).

I held onto it with a crescent and another person loosened the bolt for me.

When I put them on the other head, I hand tighten them on the new head off the engine, then after putting it on the engine and putting timing belt on completely, I then torqued them holding with crescent wrench.

FSM calls specifically for 3M sealant 8660 or equivalent. It's the same stuff used on the half moon seal which is pretty much black RTV. Loctite works but personally I think on top of the torque spec, is a bit OD and will be hard to remove. I know my last head was done like that and it required an impact gun to get the bolt loose.
