ok so I have a 96. eclipse 420a and. I'm building an engine for boost 10.5:1 compression basically a fully built engine, and I want to boost it what are some good parts to use?
I found a kit on ci motorsports has anyone used this kit any suggestions are appreciated
btw I'm not looking to hear that I need a 4g63 I want to well am rather boosting the 420

Don't order from ci unless you want to wait 3 months for parts. Now do you have any parts for the engine or do you just want turbo parts? I built my 10.5 compression motor first and I'm just getting around to the turbo stuff. I hope you have a good budget.

Je piston, eagle rods, acl race bearing, milling oil pump (I went with a toga high volume pump) or oem oil pump, get chromolly rings. I went with an unorthodox under drive pulley but you can keep the stock one. For the head there is alot of options brain crower cam shafts, ferra swirl polish valves, sbi lifters and rockers (pt cruiser style). Get all felpro gaskets and stick with stock cam gears.

The turbo parts is another story I would get a Hahn race craft turbo kit or build your own. Don't go eBay or you will regret it. Now this is just my opinion through my experiences. There's a ton of options so do your homework and read everything you can about turbo'd 420a's. I would also recommend megasquirt for tuning. I know I'm leaving out some stuff like injectors and other things but you can figure the rest out. But If you want longevity don't cheap out and definitely research your part distributors before you order anything.

You are obviously going to need megasquirt because with that high of compression you will want to run e85.

As for parts, I don't know what you have or need other then you are doing a 10.5 comp build. Need more details and how much your looking to spend.

Also food for thought, I would break your engine in N/A since you can run 10.5 comp with the stock ECU. That way you won't have to tune and break your engine it at the same time..

**Edit** - Damn you Jayson..knew I should of started typing faster LOL.

Lol sorry man haha I did that on my phone too. But you make a great point with breaking in the engine because it took me about 2000 miles to break in my rings 100%. And e85 is the best thing to go with but 93 pump gas is doable with low boost.

Forgot to mention the fuel pump upgrade and with e85 you would need 1000cc injectors. Depending on if he went with sequential or standard injector setup.

pistons are jE rods are eagle new oem crank
head :crower valves springs and titanium retainers. cruiser style lifters and rocker arms felpro seals, fidanza cam gears crower stage 2 cams. oh and bored 20 over

oh and on a side note is anyone running an aluminium radiator if so how and What kind(420a)

There's not really any aftermarket radiators anymore unless you modify a neon or 1g. They stopped making but fluyidine use to a while ago.

So you got some engine parts that's good. I pretty much listed a good place to start for you. Since your on higher compression you need to read about turbos if you don't know already. You need a turbo with a bigger a/r to keep egt's down or it won't be good. I went with a 20g hrc turbo with a bigger a/r ect... Read on megasquirt.

:barf: come on Chris, too early yet for nasty posts ;)

I've been up since 4:45 :idontknow:

For the 420a there's not a bolt up housing and manifold set up that will work unless it's custom. I think the hy35 is the only one that will work.

HY35 needs an open T3 manifold. The HX35 can be found in open (BEP .70A/R) or divided T3 flavors and pretty much any existing manifold should be able to accomodate. The HX40 can be had in Open/Divided T3 as well as both Open/Divided T4, and is physically larger than the 35.

Any of the above can be made to work. HY35 is a good "medium" size turbo on a High VE/RPM 2.0L.

OP has to list his goal(s)

If he is set on 10.5:1CR and is not going to be using E85.. he may have to look at large, efficient compressors with comparably large and efficient hotsides to fight off knock.

That's weird because I made a thread about which turbo for high compression. And the mod for the 420a section said the hy35 was the only way to go since we have like 2 turbo manifolds for aftermarket parts. Maybe I misread it tho.

Link to thread.. and there are many turbos that can work in a variety of high comp applications. The turbo is only part of the equation anyways, good fuel or a great charge cooler, big cam to bring down dynamic compression, etc can all help.

It all depends on the goals, which have yet to be shared.

Manifolds can be made..

That's why I said unless you get a custom mani haha. and the thread is in the turbo section of 420a titled what turbo for high compression. But now I think about it I can't remember if it was veliceo* or Justin I pmed about the holset series. Shit it's to early to think LOL

Its all about power goals. If he were looking for 300+whp , a 50 trim at low boost would work. But as the other Chris said, he hasn't really made mention of his goals, and only vaguely stated his build plans.

a good parts distributor for 420a internals is race engineering at: Race Engineering, Inc - 420A

they carry a lot of parts for the 420a and they will beat ci motorsports prices if you call them and talk to rob at race engineering. they helped me get one of the last callies compstar neon stroker cranks.

Guess you didn't read the whole thread? He already has his internal engine parts.
