I've come across forged rods and pistons for cheap, but they are 10.5 ratio. im going to use portfueler and aiming for around 320whp. will i be fine to use these high comp. pistons?
 
Yes, but you need to have something to control ignition as well or you may damage your motor, I made over 400 on them.

I agree, you'll definitely need something to carefully control fuel and spark (i.e. MegaSquirt EMS). Given the high CR, you may find water injection helpful, but it's not necessary with careful tuning.
 
Well I'm wanting something simple , so ms is out of the question, would portfueler with msd controller give me enough to tune to get me to my 320whp goal?

He said cheap, no way is he gonna dish out money for any of that stuff. Cheap and fast don't go together.
 
Ya I rather pay $300 for forged internals then 800 if i can get away with it. If all I need is aomething to control spark to get away with using portfueler with high comp. Pistons, then I can use the extra 500$ for something else. I'm not cheap

Maybe, but I wouldn't risk it.

A PortFueler system costs over $500 new, and an MSD ignition box costs at least that much new. Let's assume you find them both used for 50% their retail prices; you can still purchase a brand new MegaSquirt system for less money.

MegaSquirt might seem complicated, but turbocharging a high compression engine isn't exactly a simple affair. If you want simplicity, pony up the money for low compression pistons and stick with an S-FMU.
 
How much will I be dealing with just to setup MS to control fuel and spark? I still want to use my stock ecu. To control everything else
 
Why do you want to run high compression? If your strapped for cash or dont want the hassle of MS(I like the hassle actually :D) then just get standard compression pistons made. Low compression on the 2.0 sucks when not in boost, but lets face it, it is the safest way to go. You wont make as much power but with you, it sounds like it will last longer as well.
 
I'm not strapped for cash, I just got a deal for rods and pistons for 300$.

I'm thinking knock won't be an issue with a good tune using portfueler and msd to control spark, if me goal is only around 320whp, it's only a street car, and the odd day at the track.

You are better off spending the money on MS....Listen to Paul. Especially with the amount of tuning required for your wanton setup in comparison to MS. So you'll have to rewire things with MS. At least it won't give your tuning shop a headache trying to tune with 2 different programs. Also, with MS, there are a lot of tunes already in the MSQ repository that you can base your tune off of. But hey, what do I know?:idontknow:
