Alright, I'm trying to make my own MIL elim. I am having a hard time finding a 12 ohm resistor that can take 12 watts. Anyone know where I can get all my parts? Radio shack cannot get that 12 ohm resistor that can disapate 12 watts.
I need
1 mega ohm (1,000,000 ohms) resistor
1 1uf (micro-farad) capacitor
1 12ohm resistor that can disapate 12 watts of current
Anyone know where I can get them?
Thanks!

Try another radio shack, not all of them carry the DIY parts. If there isnt another one withing driving distance, their website is another option.

I got all of my parts from my local radio shack about 6 months ago, so if they said they cant get it they are full of shit. Maybe they don't normally carry it, but they can get it.

You can wire three 50ohm 10watt resistors in parallel to each other across the heater circuit, instead on the 12ohm 12watt. Three 50ohm 10 watt resistors will give you ~16ohms that will dissipate 30 watts.

If you want closer to 12 watts, you can use three 50ohm 5 watt resistors. This will give you ~16ohms at 15W.

The 50ohm 10W solution will probably get to you quick, is very cheap, and will work just fine.

Ohh, and the other parts you need are:
1 Mohm resistor
1uF capacitor

Hope that helps.

thanks for the replies so far.. Its ok to stack em up inline like that? You put them in series? Or how do you put them in paralell?

_____/______===_____\______ That how you did it in paralell?

The equl signs are my resistors.

I did this and it works, but the 3 resistors get very hot. Just want to confirm if you guys got the same problem and where did you mount it? I don't want to mount something that hot inside the car.

Thanks
