I have a balance shaft that is cousing me some vibration. I want it gone. Guys in my other thread said do a BSE. Is it really worth my time and effort? is there any noticable improvements without the balance shafts? or am I losing when I do it

The BSE mod is done for safety as much as anything (and better oil pressure). It's probably killed as many DSMs as anything. Very little noticeable vibration if taken out.(and I'm picky)

What do you mean it killed DSMs like it give better oil pressure and no vibration but how can it kill my baby

your not losing if you can go ahead and do it, broken belt more money, there is a thread on this tonnes of info there adressing your question.

If you use a cheap oil pump and a cheap ebay bse kit. It could cause the oil pump to lock up. Get a bse kit that includes oem parts. Streettunedmotorsports.com sells one.

What is giving you the impression that the balance shaft is causing a vibration? The balance shafts eliminate motor vibrations by causing their own counter vibration.

Safety yes due to removing a belt. Better oil pressure, no. You can have too high oil pressure in a motor which causes wear on parts and bearings. You will also be required for the most part to run a restrictor on all turbos now after removing it. Some people get by without a restrictor however.

My oil pressure with a ported relief valve is around 30 psi at idle. That's pretty high for idle and I want to get that lower.

The balance shaft eliminator is done by many DSMers to get rid of unnecessary parts and improve the overall reliability of the engine. The balance shafts are there for the sole purpose of masking vibrations FELT by the driver, however the vibration is still there anyways just covered up by a counterbalanced vibration. By removing the possibility of either the balance shaft bearings going out and causing the belt to break or the belt breaking because of an old, worn out belt. If the belts go out they most likely will get wrapped up in the timing belt and cause that to fail too. Being the 4G63 is an interference engine, it will cause your valves to strike your pistons resulting in a trashed head and probably piston damage too.

You are getting rid of two potential issues caused by the balance shafts -- balance belt that breaks and takes out your timing belt, balance shaft bearing going out sending the BS through your block.

You can leave the front shaft in without the belt, then oil pressure will be about the same as stock; you can also make the stub shaft easily by just cutting it off and welding the hole shut, that's what I always do -- free BS removal.

Got my kit from a vendor cheap, installed last year, no problems at all a bit more oil pressure which i like, but im glad that crap is out of there.

You didn't say if the vibration was at Idle or driving down the street. What rpm is comming in at. Like coryred said the shafts eliminate vibs they are not to supposed to cause them when they are installed. My #1 reason for removing them was to eliminate the BS belt and the shafts themselves. Different people say 5 to 10 HP more????? 2 less rotating parts YES. But it can be time before its time and BAM

Thanks guys I'll have to look into it a little more.. Im not sure if its just my timing off a little bit Ill find out tomorrow
