BSE sprocket questions **pics**

im putting my block together and ran into this issue:

the block and case has a BSE kit on it. i have my old crankshaft sprocket and one that i got when i got my new motor. my old one has the sprocket with lip on it... the new one has no lip.


if im using a BSE kit, do I:

need the balance shaft sprocket AND the timing belt sprocket?

is there a reason the lip may have been ground off the other sprocket i have?

in any situation, does the lip'd part go towards or away from the engine?

Use the one on the left. The little dowel pin goes out to hold the harmonic dampener in place. You need to use the balance shaft sprocket and timing plate still. Make sure you place the timing plate on in the right direction or your timing will be way off. You can generally tell what side goes where cause there will be markings from the sprockets on both sides.

Oh, and the "lip" that I think you're referring to is actually the washer for the timing sprocket bolt.

The lip I was referring to is seen on the left between the sprocket and the washer. It's the small rusted over lip that actually holds that washer in its place. The one on the right has the lip ground off thus not even being able to hold the washer
