Broke a 1/2" drive ratchet and breaker bar trying to break the cv axle nut loose. Never been this tough on another car. Anyone else have this problem? How did you get it off?

Better 1/2 inch breaker bar and a 5 foot pice of steel pipe. Stand on that slowly and it'll break loose.

That is how I broke my breaker bar, using a steel pipe to extend it.

Try heating the nut with a torch before using the "better 1/2 inch breaker bar and piece of steel pipe." If nothing else works, you can also cut the nut with a dremel or torch, and just buy a new one from a local store. I'd try the first idea first though!

It has been soaking in PB for a while, I got a new breaker bar that is guaranteed to be replaced if they dont find pipe marks on it (so ill just use a rag)

LOL try an 8 foot pipe on the end of the breaker bar :). We had 2 people jumping on it for 15 minutes before it budged. When we were done it was just tall enough to make a stripper pole at our place :shhh: It was by far the hardest thing I have ever tried to take off 91. PB blaster for a week and what PaulN said should work

Hammer on it with a good powerful air impact gun. If you dont have one and the car is driveable take it to a shop and have them loosen it for you and put it back on not as tight.

just hit the nut with a hammer and some brass if you have some laying around. It should jar it some and hopefully break it free. I had to put a breaker bar on mine and jump on it, the quickness worked better than doing it slow.

I just used PB, breaker bar, and a long pipe, about 3 feet. It came loose pretty easily. Don't forget to use some anti-seize for next time...:)

yes, i know.... it was a torque wrench, but it was no good for use as a tq wrench anymore. This is what was used for my brothers car. ROFL

better than a breaker bar is a slide bar, there is no joint to break.,. I use this at work on a 55mm nut on heavy machinery equipment, it WILL work :thumb:
