bright red led light

ever since i spliced into my cig lighter for my boost gauge this really bright red led light about a foot above my radio comes on at random times. so far it hasn't left me with a dead battery so it's not too annoying, but if i left it for 2-3 days i'd probably need a jump start. how do i make this thing go out.

What is the light for? The only thing about "a foot above the stereo" that lights up is the rear defrost button, but it's amber colored. Do you have an aftermarket alarm? Trace the lines from the led and check to see what it's connected to. Or just find another 12V source for the gauge light.

A car battery will run an LED for about half a year without being discharged.

Sounds like someone put in a phony "alarm" light. Disconnect it.
