Full evo Brembo upgrade on a 2g.

Slotted rotors, braided lines, Motul brake fluid.

What are your choosing for brake pads now a days.

Car sees a lot of street use, but will also need to be able to shutdown from 140+mph. Low dust and quiet would be better.

Being able to stop hard with low dust while being quiet is a tall order. For a cold temp pad on a budget, I have been satisfied with Hawk HP+ (100°F to 800°F temp range). If your not on a budget, Carbotech AX6 (50°F to 1000°F + temp range) would be my choice. Both, however can be noisy and/or dusty.

Carbotech does offer the 1521 (ambient and goes up to 800°F temp range) pad. It is a street only pad that is low dust/noise.

I also prefer blank rotors. Centric is my preferred choice. Proper bedding is essential for effective braking. Follow each manufactures directions for bedding. Carbotech also offers pads that come pre-bedded. The only drawback is that the pads friction material does not transfer to the rotor. It would be a good idea to replace or turn your current rotors if you go to Carbotech pads.

Performance is first over noise and dust. I haven't purchased the rotors yet so I could always change. I initially was going to purchase hp plus, just thought Id explore my options. My current porter field pads produce a lot of dust so Im used to it.

The Carbotech AX6 would be my personal pad choice for street/spirited driving.

They have some good prices. You can also get centrics through rock auto pretty cheap. Leaning towards hp plus, those carbontechs are outside my budget.

Girodisc Magic Pads are awesome. Great stopping power on the street and very low dust. They really are magic. I use them on my Evo.

Ferodo DS2500 are awesome pads. I've been really pleased with their performance. They are pricey though.. I paid $315 for front and rears pads for EVO Brembo calipers. I can't see many DSMers spending that much on brake pads.

Your right on that, my carbotechs with a discount were just under 300 my friend used the 2500 but he says they are not amazingly sharp on the road but he has different brake calipers so might be different effect.

Personally i choose carbotech xp10 and xp8 due to evos loving them and actually using them on the roads with great success but saying that they are not quiet or non dusty

Afew of the autox guys like the ax6 and are not bad on noise or dust but you will be hard to find a performance pads that dont dust alot.

Going over reviews and shopping around. The ds2500 and ax6 both roughly cost the same, can't seem to find a deal on either.

Anything set them apart that should lean me towards the other.

Also any other pads in the ball park a close runner up for a little less. $350 for a set of pads is steep but I'm willing to spend it if its worth it.

Looking at r4-s, giro disc s/s.

Finding mixed reviews on hawk pads in general, along with ebc and stop tech pads.

Car is rarely going to see autocross if at all, Id swap to other pads if and when I do. All street car.

I don't need the most bad ass pad, but I obviously want performance.

The ds2500 wont fade as fast as the ax6 the ax6 is for, well auto cross so its lighter duty if you want to put it that way. (Not that they wont fade but they are not from higher speeds and not intended as a full track pad) so dont get me wrong on the lighter duty part The ds2500 is what a few of my friends full track cars run and they say its a good pad, so out of them 2 then the ds2500 is better.

Other options include, performance frictions pads, and project mu's race pads, but mu's might be pricey and ive not looked in a while on them. Pretty much the same pads are used by racing brake.

Hawks are known to be very harsh on discs and eats them up speficially the race pads, EBC well dont go there. Ive had countless friends and me throw them away as they didnt get on with the pad and caused massive amounts of fade most of them switched to the ds2500 or 3000 or other brands,

I used to run reds all around in my skyline and they sucked, i have reds in the back now but im on stock brakes atm so its not an issue. Blues and yellows are the main (track ready pads) and they dont hold up very well, on the street they are good and perfectly fine but track they seem to fade good.

Rs4 and giros i cannot comment on im afraid as me or any of my friends do.t run them so im out on that part sorry.

I spent a good 6 months to a year searching for pads and riding in csrs with different ones to get an idea on which to choose. As i said before john freund said carbotech and many reviews love them so once i tried a set on my friends car they was the pad for me and can be used on the street so do consider them.
