brake lights don't work need help

Just today someone told me that my brake lights don't work but my tailights work when I turn my lights on but they just won't work when I apply the brakes. I heard there is a switch behind the pedal but I have no idea where it is. If anyone can help me with this problem PLEASE HELP!!!! I can not get a ticket for this.

first go up to autozone and get a manual for ur car and try to get a voltmeter those are good for finding shorts. My tailights didnt work but thats cause there was a ground wire going into the power out for the aftermarket cd player. so get the book it has all the diagrams in it and its like 15 bucks its the greatest thing to own for ur dsm other than tires! -oh yah good luck

99% of the time it's either your bulbs (there's a seperate filament for brakes), or a fuse, or the brake switch which is on the brake pedal (look up there). If you pull the connector plug off the switch and temporarily short the 2 wires together, your brakes should come on (this means your switch is bad).

Okay I found out what the problem was it was a blown 15A fuse in the fuse box under the hood sorry about that. I have the brake switch for the cruise control but I don't have cruise so could it be that somone just took it out?

you mean took the cruise out? anything's possible.
