BOV vented? would a afc help?

Ok if i dont wanna replace my bov and i dont have the filter that came with my blitz BOV so i cant custom recirc it how can i prevent it from damaging the car??? everyone sais when it vents to the atmostphere it causes you to run lean, stall, idle funny and gives problems to your IAC.....if i had a apexi SAFC would this help since i can change fuel settings??? or if anyone has any cheaper ideas plz post
 
when you vent it actually causes you to go rich, since you are losing a fair amount of metered air when you vent. A SAFC will help a little, but it WON'T fix it. I vented for a very long time, however never really had any major issues. You have a few options, set the SAFC low enough on the lo 1000rpm scale so you have as few issues as possible.

You can relocate your MAS, in the means of a maf translator set up in your I/C pipes(which is what I have).

The cheapest would be a crushed 1G bov. :thumb:
 
yea...ur MAS has to be b/w ur TB and the BOV. i'm not sure but i think runnin rich will shorten the life of ur O2 sensors. SAFC would help somewhat but a VPC+GCC would b better.....that's a different story.
 
An S-AFC will not help a bit on our style MAF to cure these problems.
 
cheaper to buy a new bov or a maf?? im not even sure where to find a mass air flow sensor for performance nor do i know what would be best...so before ya tell me to search...i dont know what to search for !

as much as i like speed(like my newb turbo and oher crap) i do enjoy bein a newb a little bit...BOV sounds are awesome i love em :p blitz...which is a big whoooshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh or the greddy which is kinda like weeeeepishhhhh or something... so i must get greddy i geuss :/
 
greddy is fine. I would recommend the GreddyS but we thought you may have been pennypinchin. I love my greddy.

Sound, or Performance.
 
You could also do a 3' GM MAF with the 5-3 prong connector.

You can pick up a 3" GM MAF at a local wrecker for 15-20 $ and the plug for 15 from www.dejontool.com . And if you wanted to really improve the car you would go and get the MAF Translater.

These three componentc combined will deffinetly improve your performance while allowing you to run a vented BOV.
 
im curious...i have to cut my stupid intake anyhow and weld it...after thats done cant i just run a hose back to the outlet on the BOV and be done with it??? would that make it recirc??? also you say the gm maf.. you say like 15 bucks a at a junk yard but what do i ask for? any gm mas?? also...will that mess up my emissions at all?
 
Your emmisions shoudl be fine.

what the hell does a maf translator do..i get tons of things come up when i do a search but no one seems to have a set answer
i see on dejon they have corvette mafs listed....the list of gm mafs are all the same and all are a improvement over my stock maf?
 
The " MAF Translator will alllow the use of a GM MAF sensor on the 3000GT & Stealth V6 twin turbo cars and the 1G & 2G Talon & Eclipse Turbos. These low restriction sensors will improve spool up time and air flow. The Translator will also allow you to completely adjust your fuel curve to compensate for changing conditions or modifications to your car. You can also compensate for addding bigger injectors when you need them. There is also a switch that will eliminate fuel cut when you want to turn up the boost. When used on the 3S cars you may chose from either the 3.5 GM sensor used on the late modle LS1 cars or the 3.75 sensor used on the LS6 Vette. When used on the 1G & 2G TEL you can chose either the 3 sensor from an Impalla SS or the same 3.5 unit above. This comes with complete instructions to get you started and is easy to install.

The different models of cars have different sizes of MAF sensors. I beleave the Corvett has the largest 3 5/8" MAF. But for all usefull purposes on a DSM you would use a 3". They are an improvment over the stock MAF because it opens up more tunign ablility as well as flowing better.
 
Yes you can. But you want to be carful no to get any MAF that is over 3" in diameter or else you will make your car run like crap.

Its the same idea as throwing to big of IC pipes on your car. Just wont work right.

That list contains ALL of the compatable MAF's for a DSM. Meaning that there are MAF's in there that range from the small 3" to the larger 3 5/8" MAF. So be carful which you get.

There are quite a few folks running the 3 1/2" LS1 MAF. I have yet to hear of any translator/drivability problems due to the size of teh MAF, but would love a link if you have.
 
As far as the size is concerned, i have heard from other people running the lager MAF's that it can cause alot of problems because its to big. But im just passing on the warning. For all usefull purposes a 3" is large enough. You wont really flow more even with a 3 1/2" MAF. Rather juat have a larger space to fill with air.
 
The only reason to use the 3.5 MAF is if you're flowing too much air (big turbo) for the 3 incher. If you use too big of a MAf, you won't get as good of readings, and you're tuning won't be as accurate. It will work though.

You don't need to recirculate the MAF (in blow-thru setup) unless you're going for stealth. You can just vent the BOV straight to atmosphere.

These three componentc combined will deffinetly improve your performance while allowing you to run a vented BOV.

would an AFC or another kind of fuel controller be needed? Or could I put on the maf, plug, (and another intake tube while I'm at it) and run that as is w/o needed to tune? the dejon website makes it sound like you need the translator for it to work.

And I think this is along the lines of the original question, or it's somewhat headed there. Do ppl relocate the mas to have a better idle and more accurate reading? But you could still place it on the intake pipe, vent, and have it run correctly?
 
You'd be trying to fix one problem by adding another problem and hoping the 2 even out.

The end all thread to info about the GM MAF. I pretty much answered all the questions I had. I've yet to install anything and have just been reading, so take it for what it's worth.

The gm maf can be located in the stock location. It'd be an improvement over the stock crappy 1G MAS. However you couldn't vent to atm, since the maf is still metering that air that gets vented. If you'd want to vent it needs to be placed after the bov before the tb. There'd be no real perf adv other than being able to vent.



The translator would allow you to tune the car somewhat and buying an APC ontop of that would be a waste (from what I understand). From what I also understand from reading other posts (and FDTT) the translator isn't necessary, but it'd be a good idea to go ahead and spring for it.

I have a redneck idea of just buying some piping from jc whitney and couplers from home depot to make a diy uic pipe to be able to goto a blow-through setup down the road sometime instead of spending 200-300 on one.
