BOV tuning

i realize there is a thread similar to this going right now, but the original quetion being ask in the other thread is different than mine, and i didnt want to jump into the other thread and change the subject alittle bit, so my question. I have a blitz BOV that i am venting, i would get the rec. kit, but i am going to get a MAF-T very soon. I noticed that my car was acting kind of funny, so i looked under the hood and the adjustment screw in the middle of the BOV was missing. I had another one to replace it with, so i went ahead and did that but i have no idea how far to screw it in or out. If it is in further, will it compress the spring which will allow it to hold more pressure? or....how exactly does this work?

in further would probably compress the spring if its design is anything like the greddy typeS. so if you are running at Stock PSI you should not have that screw all the way in.
And does it have anything written on it indicating softness or hardness if so set it half way and go for a short drive and if it doesn't blow off when you shift its to hard and you need to soften it up. and if you hear it before you reach peak boost then you need to harden it up.

and you should put a nut on that screw to lock it down so that you don't have this happen again.

when tuning your bov many people say listen to see if it "flutters" and others say it sounds like a squirrel so if you dont hear that perfect whistle then it needs to go softer but i would say since you dont have a lock nut on it i would start where you know its a little to hard and go from there turning it anywhere from a 1/2 turn to 3/4

I don't think your car acting funny is due to your missing screw on your bov. The worst that can do is give you a boost leak. I know you said you plan on going with the GM maft soon, but i would still suggest you go to your nearest auto store and pick up a peice of radiator hose and recirculate it until you do. It would cost a dollar at most and i'm sure it will cure your troubles.

Also, If you don't hear ANYTHING from your BOV thats another indication that its on too hard.

i have a lock nut on it, i never said that i didnt have one. The reason that the old screw fell out was because the nut on it came loose, but now that i replaced it, i put a nut on it. Also, my car was running funny before i replaced the screw. It wouldnt idle correctly, it made a weird noise when it blew off, and it didnt seem to have quit the pull that it should have. Now, there is a screw with a nut in the BOV, and it seems to be running fine. The idle is normal again, it pulls hard, and it sounds good. The only question that i asked was how to adjust it. Which, from the replied post that are up here, if it doesnt blow off, i have the it screwed in too far. If it starts to blow off before i shift, then i have it too loose. So i will now make my adjustments to what some of you have posted.
