BOV and By-Pass valve differences???

I have a 98 GST, currently about to install FMIC, the piping i got from a friend already has flange for HKS by pass valve with it on it. Is ok to run? what is the differences between BOV's and by-pass valves? I have stock turbo and plan on raising the boost a little bit also. Please help!!!!

They're the same.

Some people say that recirculated blow off valves are bypass valves since they don't really "blow off."

They all perform the same function.
