So im running an external 044 with a custom in-tank pickup. THIS THING IS SO FRIGGIN LOUD its ridiculous. its louder than every single thing on this car. Im almost positive there is a kink in the main feed line to the pump, but it will still flow just fine. will that affect sound? another thing i noticed is that the pump speed varies at idle. its a rewired pump too. could that be a sign of a pre pump leak? okay back to the sound issue.... I was thinking about wrapping the whole pump and lines in dynamat. the only problem i see arising from this is heat issues. Can these pumps take heat like that? or do they really need to be ventilated? or can i just wrap that sucker up and be happy?

At one point i was in a similar situation with a 044. My intank inline 044 was a tad bit clogged. The speed varied and it sounded like this.

Then the inline pump may be cavitating/starving for fuel. It may be clogged or the pre-filter may be clogged. Or the intank pump could be clogged and not pushing enough fuel. You think it may be a tiny kink in the line? Have you monitored the fpr to see if fuel pressure is dropping?

I have twin External Bosch 044's and they are quiet as can be. they only make noise when i run low on fuel and the pumps starve out. So im gunna say you either have a kink in the line pre pump, or your filter prepump is clogged.

I wouldn't wrap it. It won't do much for noise, and you might take away it's ability to effectively air cool.

044 pumps are naturally loud. I've never heard a quiet one. In my experience, when you run out of fuel and starve one, the "whine" will change pitch, but not nessacerily get louder.

Here's a video of mine on my car. Supra in-tank feeding an external 044. I had zero fueling issues, so this is how loud they normally sound.

Yeah. 044's are not quiet at all. But your vid is how they should sound.
