Well I have a 99 gsx which quit on me a few months ago and I just got the time to tear it down and pull the engine. So I found out yesterday I spun the rod bearing in the third cylinder and destroyed the cylinder wall pretty badly. After inspecting the piston (all pistons being completely burnt and blackened at the top) I noticed a small ding in the top where it must've hit the valve :barf: ..so only options that I can think of now are either look for a new engine or bore mine out and go forged. Only problem is this is my first time rebuilding an engine (that's not a little 1 or 2 cylinder) so I'm not super confident. What would be my best option and would going forged be worth it BC I don't have the money right now for a bigger turbo and fuel system?

yes some pics will help.

Sounds like you have more than one failure to figure out.

1) spun rod bearing #3
2) cylinder wall scoring
3) burnt pistons

I would figure out if your block is still good and do forged internals if your power goal are over 400. If you plan to build it yourself do a lot of research first.

If it were me, I'd take the bare block down to get inspected before I made a final decision on either route, and get a local shops opinion.

A reputable shop will be able to tell you whether or not it can be fixed with or without breaking the piggy bank.

For example, I had a motor bored, all went well... spun a bearing down the road, took it back in and they broke the news they had to sleeve it to fix it this time. Still not a big deal but it was more expensive the second time around.
