So I did a little digging around and I'm getting hit or miss answers on what I should do at this point. My turbo (small 16G) is looking pretty beat up. It has some in and out shaft play (doesn't seem like any side to side, just in and out). It has a few cracks on the inside of the exhaust side (none are all the way through) and the compressor wheel has serious chips taken out of it. It's been like that since I bought the car last year. It boosted fine to 10lbs (then to 16+ which is why I am doing a bottom end rebuild right now haha). Didn't seem to make any funny noises.

So, now the question is do I rebuild or replace? If I rebuild I was looking at this kit:
Forced Performance Turbochargers: FP Turbo Rebuild Kits

and this new compressor wheel:
Forced Performance Turbochargers: Mitsubishi Compressor Wheels

That's about $300 plus shipping. Would there be anything else I need to rebuild?

I guess I really want to know if it is cost - effective and reliable to rebuild the small 16G.

I'm kinda trying to get this thing running soon. It seemed to be working despite its issues. I was hoping to drive with this turbo til the new one or the rebuild kit gets here. IDK

If you don't need your turbo right now..PM JusMX141, he will rebuild your turbo for cheaper than 300...Depending on whats wrong with it..

I would still check with him, he may have one ready to go and would sell it to you or swap yours as a good core or some such deal.

Plus he has the exp of building turbos, I think it may save you a headache down the road.
