I need to know if it is worth rebuilding the motor or should i replace it?
Here is what i know; i have oil leaking all over from the front valve cover camshaft position sensor, something underneath leaking bad above the oil filter, blown turbo, possibly, and dipstick popped out a while back but i crimped the tube, valve guides need to be redone because of start up smoke and i think oil rings are bad but i need to do compression check to make sure. im not sure of the difficulty of rebuilding these engines are and i would only have about one day to do it. is it worth getting an engine off a japan import site or ebay or is that a ticking time bomb? thanks for the input.

What is your budget like? I mean a JDM engine will run you good grand and up..

It doesn't seem like your engine really has any "major" problems. I said that in quotes, because it doesn't seem like you'll need much to fix it. I mean if you threw a rod bearing or jumped timing, it'd be worse.

Do a complete teardown of the engine, and you'll soon see what is causing the leaks and problems. Most likely it's just seals, gaskets, and maybe the rings. Make sure you check the valve seals also. It can also be valve stems for the smoke on start up. The dipstick popping out is normal on these cars. LOLz. :thumb:

Rebuilding an engine like the 4G63 is about the same as any other. It could be done in one day if you had everything laid out and knew exactly what to replace. So, you'll need more time... As for the blown turbo, don't worry, you can find a 14b very cheap (less than $150).

Simply put, I don't think your engine is anywhere near the need to be completely replaced. How many miles on it? Cause like I said up top, you don't seem to have major problems that couldn't be fixed with a mild rebuild.

Major damage = new engine.
Minor damage (Seals, gaskets, stems, rings, etc..) = rebuild.

Good luck though!

parts are cheap.. rebuild it.. it will be a lot cheaper if you know how to do the work yourself :thumb: ... me and a buddie are about to do similar work you will on my engine
