Saskatoon,
:dsm: I have a 1990 GSX with almost 190k miles on it. i want to modify my car but I know there will be no point in doing anything to a car with that many miles on it. Is it good enough to just rebuild the engine and turbo or would it be worth it to just replace them both? :dsm:

Well any motor you get will be 'rebuilt', so you dont' really have a choice there. The choice is either rebuilding it yourself, or buying a rebuilt one. If you have the time and the tools, I'd rebuild it yourself. You learn alot and you know that its done right.

Have you checked compression/leakdown on it before deeming it in need of a rebuild?

For the turbo, I got my e16g rebuild by SBR for about $150-200. You might wanna just upgrade yours to something a bit more potent instead of putting more money in yours.

Make a checklist, go through the car and do all maintenance (gaskets, seals, hoses, etc) and while your at it..
Rebuild the motor for sure... and go through and replace everything you think MAY need to be replaced. It's better to replace it and know your okay, then to have a problem and have to go back and replace it.

As far as rebuilding the turbo, save your money on that. Look around for a bigger turbo if your going to mod the car. The 14b will get you so far, but once your that far, you will want to go further.

This has to got to be the worst advice I've ever heard. But I guess it sounds about right since I read in another post that he loved the fast and the furious... Give me a break man, that's not how these cars work. It's people like you that shouldn't be driving DSMs.

And its peopel liek you that shouldnt be driving at all....a mans car is like his personality. You want it to look great and noticable. But you, you sound like you like everyhitn fast. I bet your a wuick shot arent ya. Ride it like a rabbit and then youre done. :laser:

No i haven't done a compression or leakdown test, im just assuming that it would need a rebuild considering how many miles are on it.
