Ok I recently bought my first dsm and got some of the bugs worked out but
Came across some more issues. The biggest of which is the shaft play in the turbo. Basically I'm trying to figure out which is the better option rebuild or replace??

Well depends on if money is your concern. What supporting mods do you have on your car for a 16g?Please update your profile when you get a chance. Not a huge fan of those hahn 16g I love the evo3 16g.:thumb:

Unfortunately I can't take the turbo off at the moment since it's my daily driver but money is limited at the moment as far as mods go I'll tell you what I know:
Hahn racecraft 16g turbo
Turbo back exhaust
Rebuilt motor (working on what was installed)
AEM Tru boost gauge controller
Like I said I'm still trying to make heads from tails as to what's in there but I see a full rebuild on the horizon.

You could try a local junkyard and try to find a 1g with a 14b (in manual 1g's), I couldn't imagine they would run you much, rebuild it. There's youtube vids on install and removal. Guys youtube name is Jafromobile try and get a whole day off and do it yourself or maybe get ahold of a local tuner to help out.
That's probably your best bet. Good luck!

Depends if there's wheel damage from the excessive play or not.

Wheel damage generally means replace to the average consumer. Often the cost of the repair exceeds the value of the turbo when factoring in things like possible damage to the turbine seal surface in the center housing as a result of the turbine rubbing from the excessive play.

That being said, it's best to have someone experienced in turbocharger repair inspect your turbo and deem it rebuildable or not. Check the Freelancer section of this site, or choose a trustworthy repair shop like G-Pop Shop or Majestic Turbo that are going to be honest with you and not just throw the turbo together in order to get it fixed or replace parts that don't actually need to be replaced.

I grabbed a turbo from a junkyard a while back and it's been sitting in my storage ever since. I was thinking about making my 94 Integra a turbo so I guess I might see if it's worth rebuilding it came off a 1g I'm pretty sure it was a 2.0 but not sure. I know was deffinetly a 5spd
