Ok I know there are 800 boost problem forums but I'm chasing down a leak. I have a 90 eclipse gsx completely stock. I have a few questions I built my own blt and I had leaks at not ends of the th shaft and the biss screw. Fixed the leaks and retested and I still had a leak that I haven't tracked down yet but it actually head pressure this time so I put it back together and drove it to work. On the way home from work I pulled out and got on it to show my buddy what happens when it messed up. Feels like the car hits a wall and sputters. Today I noticed that while I'm coasting it idle surges and the surging stop as soon as the car stops morving and then the idle smooths out. I haven't deleted the vacuum lines yet which I'm going to do this week.

Also on my way home the car died on my while it was acting up and it found that it was a plug had can loose. I checked the connector and plug it back in and car started right up. While the car was running I wiggled the connector and the car tried to die. What exactly is the connector?

I apologize for the thread being all over the place.

Are you using soapy water spraying down all of your connections? That's a big boost leak. Spray all the intercooler lines, around the intake, around the fuel injectors, etc.

Yes I'm using soapy water. I head it escaping sounds like out of the exhaust but does the car NEED to be at tdc or does it need to me 30btdc or does it matter. I've read all three in places. I'm wanting to just delete the vacuum lines all together like the taboo delete but I don't understand that fully

Stick to one thing first and fix all of the boost leaks. Check out the vfaq and make sure you fix all boost leaks. Post back with what leaks you have fixed and how long it takes to bleed the pressure fully out

try it this way. to help isolate the leak, do it at the throttle body. if you still have a leak then you know its either in the throttle body or in the intake. if that holds pressure then move to the intercooler. a leak there is a loose fitting or the bov is leaking. no leak then go back to the turbo. as mentioned before, use soapy water and spray the area you're testing. common leak spots are hose fittings, bov, biss screw, and throttle shaft seals. it can also be a bad gasket or a hose that isn't connected. like the fuel pressure regulate hose will be a vacuum leak.

Turbo inlet housing with a compressor at first it wasn't at tdc. Last time I tried it I put it at tdc.

When the engine is at TDC cylinder 4 is in overlap (both intake and exhaust valves open) so air from the BLT can leak right out the exhaust. If you advance the crank angle 15-30 degrees past TDC you'll close the exhaust valves on that cylinder and shouldn't have any cylinder with more than one set of valves open so you can test.

Could be a blown turbo seal. Also make sure to do the blt when engine is warmed up. I just had to rebuild my 16g because of bad boost leak from rear seal. And it was a pain in the butt to pinpoint. Also i would check intake mani. Gasket. When was it last replaced?

So I done another blt and had the car a rough 30 atdc. And heard air from the vc and sure enough I have a crack in the vc and I got to thinking I shouldn't have air coming from the vc. So long story short is my pcv is shot. Just for fun I plugged the hose with a bolt and clamp. I am pretty sure I'm sealed after I replace the pcv. Next is to remove vacuum hoses. Thanks for the help.

had the same problem for awhile, it was a bad ground to firewall. upgraded the battery and re tightened all of the connections and it went away.

surging/hesitation could also be a fuel/spark issue so check your coil and injector connections

Ok so I have been fixing boost leaks for a weak now and have it holding a good amount. At first it was tb shaft seals and biss. Then I'm having trouble with finding a good pcv valve. Tonight I had injector seal leaks so I've replaced them now they are good. I have a crack vc. I am getting a air during my blt from my vc. So I blocked the pcv off and I'm still getting air. The car has been sitting for a week should I put it back together let the car warm up and the retry with the car warm? I have tested at both the th and turbo inlet to eliminate turbo seals. I have done a compression test and it was 150,145,145,145. Haven't done a leak down test yet didn't think I had to since the number where decent. I'm hoping that the rings aren't that bad since compression wasn't horrible. Any advice would be highly appreciated.
