Ever since i got my UICP and 1g bov, there has been a whistling sound when i come to a stop or let off the gas. My first problem was that my BOV dump tube didn't fit exactly on the intake so I went to Home Depot and kinda made my own dump tube. In doing this, it reduced the whistle noise and i only hear it once in a while for a short period of time. So that makes me think the whistling was coming from around the bov, dump tube, intake area, instead of the intercooler pipe meeting the UICP, which is where i first thought the sound was coming from. Is it possible that the whistling is coming from this area? and what kind of tubing did you guys use to recirculate the BOV instead of the stock tube?

I made a boost leak tester similar to the one in the link, but when i hooked up my air compressor to the tester i couldnt get more than 3 psi in the system, Is their anything i need to cap off while doing a boost leak test?

sorry for the newb questions...thanks

Here are two videos of the whistling noise...

First one: Kinda hard to hear the whistling, but wanted to show when the noise is made.

Second one: defiantly can hear whistling noise.

thanks

dont worry your fine, its just the BOV opening a crack and the air in the UICP is escaping thru it to the intake pipe. Its completely normal.

I have a Greddy type RS and mine does this too. The first time this happened it turned out that the diaphram was stuck open. So I got a new one for free, and now the new one does it. I checked the diaphram and it is fully closed. Its really annoying. The only time it happens to me is when i rev slightly like the original poster did, if I let off the gas a little, or if im cruising in first really slow. Is there any possible fix at all?

yea, no worries, theres just a slight crack or hole somewhere that air is escapeing or rushing through and it just whistles

(Found this thread searching)

$hit...recently did the GReddy pipe/RS-BOV combo upgrade and got the bird call. I was actually hoping something was broken so I could fix it and make it go away. Now that I know it's normal, the noise is going to take a LOT of getting used to considering it's all light throttle here on NYC local roads.

you think its anoying now that you are just experience it.
wait 3 years like im at and you'll be bothered that your not hearing it. You'll get that DSMer paranoia that somethings NOT right when you dont hear it.

the only way i could get rid of it was by doing the SSP (Single Spring Mod {search}) and tighten the BOV till it didnt "sing" but dint "flutter", but i should add that this made my car buck when going up a hill in cruise control

Hey guys have any of you have problems while doing boost leak tests? With my Greddy type RS (which is my second one now due to not sealing properly) when i pressurize the system the air just goes straight out the opening of the Blow Off Valve. I'm thinking again that now this new Greddy type RS is defective. This is really starting to bug me. I had the same problems with the whole whistling thing like I said above but now i think that, that whistling is why i can't pressurize the system. Any and all help is appreciated

make sure that your small line to the bov is connected tight and not cracked or torn at all. and make sure your mbc isnt tapped into the bov line

Not sure if the EVO single spring mod will work for me. I'm running the RS not the Type-S. I'm learning to ignore the whistle, but it's damn annoying in any enclosed area (ie. indoor parking lots, garages, etc) or any place that has reverberating acoustics thereby enhancing the volume/pitch. I can't speak for everyone but MBC for me is hooked up from the J-pipe nipple to the wastegate using the shortest amount of vaccum hose as possible. My BOV vac nipple is also hooked up properly (to the intake manifold) with a new silicone line/hose clamps that has no evidence of being loose or brittle/cracked. I haven't run a boost leak test since installing the new equipment, but I will get around to it during the next week or so. Nothing erratic on my boost gauge though, 15psi with almost non existent spiking. The car's not reacting like anything is broken...just 'whining' like it is, LOL.

I have my vacuum line is tight an I do not have a MBC yet so that isn't a problem. What do you guys think i should do? This is my second BOV that has done this. Both BOV's were purchased through Dave at Dejon. I wish i would have bought a HKS ssqv right now.:notgood:

I actually like that sound, makes me feel like I'm in a jet but my girlfriend says it sounds like a plane crashing.
