Sup guys. My car has been having very rough starts, low vac (5-6 inHG) and dies. I have been fixing boost leaks for the past two days. I'm at work at the moment, so I told my father to check the car out and see if he could find any more leaks. We've been using the small tire air compressor. He got the bright idea to hook up our air compressor TANK to the tester so it would fill the pipes faster and help him hear the leaks. Needless to say he says he used 150 psi for 3-4 seconds before it blew the tester off the turbo. He says that the turbo is now hissing. Can you guys give me some idea about how much damange my idiot of a dad did before I get home? Anything I should look or check for first? What are the odds he's destroyed my turbo/valves/engine. *shakes head* Good grief. :toobad:

it never made it to 150 psi evry cupling in the piping would pop. using the air compressor is a good idea as long as you use the regulator.

On a difernt note you should pull the lower intercooler piping off the turbo and test from there rather then have all that positive pressure in the turbo with no oil pressure pushing back on it suporting the gaskit.

Now you understand what your dad had to put up with for 16 years. :) Just becase the regulator was set at 150psi doesn't mean anything, your home made tester would be lucky to hold anything more than 30psi so don't be too hard on him.

Lol. Thanks oldman. But you have to realize, my dad has helped me each step of the way while working on this car and he's rarely ever done anything wrong. He's constantly pointing out stupid things I do or have done halfassed. I was just ONCE wanting to point and shout "Lookit whut you did! You broked it!" *coughs* Well, you know what I mean. We'll see what shape it is in when I get home.

The first time that i did a boost leak test i was stupid and put it up to 35lbs on my compressor(sp) and blew a seal in my turbo. So to your question before if it could blow the turbo, I think it could or at least the seals in it.

When I put the rest of my upper intercooler piping on this weekend I'll try and remember to yank the intake off and check the turbo for shaft play. I work nights so I can't tell if its smoking while I'm driving, but I know its not while in idle. Eh, we'll see what happens. I still need to get my FP and injectors in so I can really turn the boost up. Finally got the idle mostly settled by adjusting the BISS screw. Dunno why it needed adjusting since I haven't messed with it...but oh well.
