Bolt-in roll cages?

Remember DSM's can hit the 135MPH 10pt cage requirement well before the 9s, so if looking to go that fast, better to do it once and get the 10pt now than having to retrofit/redo a rollbar.

Also note that the S&W kits are cut-to-fit + weld-in, so unless you have a welder, should factor that cost into your budget as well.

Remember talking to a NJ chassis shop that would do an 8pt steel cage for $1,000, provided I gave them a gutted car.

Yes but S&W is 30 minutes outside of philly and they have to make it anyway so I can take a trip up there let them measure and then make it :rocks: This is a street car even though it will be mostly gutted and have a cage so a 10 point and 135mph traps aren't really on my radar anytime soon.

Guys, if you're doing this to meet tech requirements at a drag strip be sure to check with them about bolt-in cages. Here in Denver the local strip will NOT allow certain bolt-in cages. I want to say it's Autopower cages they don't allow but I'm not certain. In any case, check with the track management before you make such a big purchase. What's the point of putting in a roll bar if it won't pass tech?

You can usually get a custom roll bar/cage done at a local shop for $800-$1k or so. And it will almost always fit better than a bolt-in roll bar.

I have never seen a DSM bolt-in roll bar what was NHRA/IHRA legal. The are probably not going to give you trouble if you are slow and you might get away with using one of those bars even if you are fast, if they do not look too closely, but if they ever truly inspect your car, you will be asked to leave.

I am with Chris, get a custom bar weled into your car!

As for harnesses, Schroth 4 point harnesses are very popular for AutoXers, but they are NOT NHRA/IHRA legal at all (even if you are slow). If that is your only belt (as in if you removed the OEM belts), you will not be allowed to race!

90% of rollbar/rollcage kits, bolt or weld in fit like junk, do it properly and take it to a chassis shop.

I bought one from S&W race cars for a mustang, it fit like junk.

The notches where horrible making some of the roll bar pieces useless.

I had to re-notch what I could save and throw the rest of it away.

the cage from dsmparts is nhra and ihra certified mine passed all last year at events and i had a chassis shop put one in they said weld in cages are fine but there made of mild steel which is slightly heavy for a drag car and the bolt in cages DO NOT pass nhra and ihra tech just so you know.

definately prefer a welded cage. adds stability and you really dont have to worry about anything breaking, if the welds are good. Safety is no accident
