I bought a 96 GST which needed a clutch and tranny because it was grinding second gear. I installed an ACT 2100 clutch, 8lb fidanza flywheel and a transmission from craigslist (not the best choice but best for my budget). After putting everything back together when I try to drive the car, no matter how much acceleration I try to give, it barely goes past 5 mph. What puzzles me is it drives perfectly in reverse.

Ive been stumped on this problem for a couple months now. Id appreciate any advice!

Does the car rev up high when you drive it forward? Can you engage all the gears? Is there any abnormal noises coming from the tranny? Also are u sure you put everything the rights way?

My first suspect is not the clutch it's the tranny? Open it to see how the internals are. If the clutch engages all the gears and it grabs fine to go in reverse then most likely is the tranny. I would also check the transfer case and the diff.

It revs up pretty normally when I drive it forward & yes all the years engage. No abnormal noises coming from the tranny. I cant think of anything that I could have put in wrong. I double checked everything before putting the tranny back in. I was hoping I wouldn't have to take it out again but that seems like the only option. Thanks for your help ;)

If the car drives fIne in reverse than the clutch is doing it's job and works properly.did you check the shifter linkage and the shift forks on the tranny?

That could be a possible problem. That will be my first thing to adjust or fix. Do you have any engine codes?

Also does it go 5mph in all the gears or only in first? Also check if the car dies when you put it in high gear like 3rd and step of the clutch. That will test the clutch system. If yes the clutch is good if not there is a problem.

Ok. In my opinion if it's not the linkage it's something wrong with the tranny, transfer case, or diff. Check all the obvious things first before going big,

Good luck
