ok so heres how the timeline goes. For about the last 2 months when i would shift gears at wide open throttle I would get a nice puff of bluish smoke out the tail pipe that has gotten progressively worse. Now about 4 days ago on my way home from work I started to notice a slight whistling sound when my turbo would begin to produce boost and it would only boost up to 10lbs when it originally used to boost up to 16lbs. That had me thinking boost leak for sure. The very next day on my way back to work the car wouldnt boost at all and felt extremely sluggish in the acceleration department. My boost/vacume gauge doest even come close to showing boost and only stays under vacume. The car still runs well enough to get me to work at decent speeds i just cant accelerate worth a damn. It also is still getting excellent gas mileage in the ways of 24mpg on the highway. So when i got home from work today i added some oil cause i know its eating it for breakfast. after adding the oil and letting the car run for a few minutes I started to hear a sligh clanking from what sounded like the turbo. so bottem line blown turbo ?

Did you ever check for boost leaks? It almost sounded like your WGA arm popped off, have you checked for shaft play yet?

Check for boost leaks, then

take off the intake and check for shaft play, wheel damage or alot of oil buildup. Then take off the downpipe and look for oil residue if there are no leaks.

It sounds like a dying turbo.

I never checked for boost leaks because the car always ran fine and my boost gauge always read a good 14 or 15 psi. I havent had the time as of all this happening to do a boost leak test or check for shaft play. but it is on the list to get checked. The turbo doesnt sound like it even remotely spooling

That's your biggest mistake right there. Make it a habit and routinely perform BLTs. I do.

Perform boost leak test's on a daily, if not hourly basis. :thumb:

J/K, but seriously, do a boost leak test.

i have an autometer sport comp 30/30 vacume/boost gauge that was the first mod when i bought the car and ever since it always gave me a reading of 14-16 psi. and im gettin that from a good boost source

ok so now today the oil burning and smoke is way way worse. last nite i put in 2 quarts and today after going to and from work my oil light statred to flicker on and off. time to start my christmas shopping

Your turbo is probably blown and you are just driving around. Not very smart if any debris gets in the oil you could ruin the oil pump or spin a bearing. All you have to do is take off one clamp at the turbo inlet move the intake tube to the side and stick your fingers in the opening and feel if it moves up or down 15min max.
