Its blown gotta be now today It sounds like a vacuum cleaner when if it boosts at all. Then thats followed by white smoke out of the exhaust. If I boost at all it'll smoke bad. If I keep it in the vacuum side it doesn't do bad just puffs at idle.

So should I rebuild? I can get a kit on Ebay for 70-90 dollars. Ir just find a good used one.
There a few reasons I can't decide. One if I rebuild it I know its good, and its right. On the other hand I found a huge crack in the wastegate area, when I replaced the manifold. Thats why I had considered when it goes bad to replace it VS. rebuild.

So...I'm grounded until I can get a new one or a rebuild kit. I was hoping some one knew where to get one, or steer me in the right direction of one. Or if you got one, I'm ready to buy the parts or part I need. Just throwing it out there hoping someone could help me out here.

Jusmx141 wrote a great article on this site for rebuilding tdo5h/6 turbos.
Take the housings off of the turbo to determine the condition of the wheels for starters and go from there. Also you may find your turbine shaft is worn down once you take it apart, rendering it useless as well. Its possible a worn journal bearing could cause centersection damage as well as the worn shaft.

I just got my rebuild kit, and followed the write up it was pretty simple except the pain in the arse snap rings, straight forward and very simple. I'd say rebuild.

Crap...Man its pretty bad. You should see the compressor blades. Some are broken off almost entirely. The turbine wheel isn't as bad but you can tell where its shaved against the housing wall.

I think I'm going to be in for just a whole turbo. I'd have to buy both new wheels, and all. I'll post a pic.

heres a few of both wheels. If you look close at the turbine wheel you can see where its been ground back some.

I been waiting for when It would blow. Just didn't know when. I just want to know where the rest of those compressor blade pieces went? I can only imagine where they are. By some stroke of luck maybe they are in the intercooler. I'm not betting on it though.

Hery, I got a hit from a member for 70, but I'd have to use this exhaust housing. I may do it. He says theres zero shaft play but he doesn't know if it smokes? If the shaft play is zero it shouldn't smoke right? Also I need to get a new oring for that compressor cover. I bet mits. will have to order that piece.

- evo 3 or 18g wheel $60
-machine CHRA and Comp housing to wheel spec $30 to $80
-16g rebuild kit $70

Upgraded 14b to 18g for more power priceless.

That's too much play to rebuild safely. Guaranteed the turbine seal lip has contacted the housing, damaging everything.

You can buy good used 14B's for less than $100....if you're going to rebuild or upgrade anything, start with a good core.

Thanks, its been a long day. I found a JDM turbo in raleigh for 100. Went out, and got it. Dude said he got out of dsms a while back, and had it to spare after a 6 bolt swap. but he put a different turbo on, and saved it. He said it had 30K miles from a JDM engine he bought. It looks pretty new. The part number was 014000 on the casting. It didn't look too old. He kept saying"you know these are 1,600 dollars from Mits." The numbers were different from my other turbo where its cast 01 then 03 is stamped then 00 cast. the whole number was cast.

So I been bolting it on all evening. Now that I got it all back together I've got to turn the boost controller waaaay back!! Lol where I had it set on the last turbo spooling 15-16psi. My gauge jumps straight up to 20+. So I gotta play with it until I get it to turn back.I may test the wastegate actuator to see if its even opening up first .LOL.

Thanks for your advice guys. I still got the other parts if I can use the compressor housing, and I hope the core is good for a rebuild. I may piece together a sleeper 18g like posted.

When I took the old shaft apart the bearing that rides on the hot side was just gone. Looking on the inside the oil holes were totally covered up. I mean they were tiny if any hole at all from the shaft that didn't look good.

He kept saying"you know these are 1,600 dollars from Mits."
You should've told him "Oh yeah, well my car cost $17k new....it's not worth that much anymore now is it?"

I don't understand where these people come from that like to tell you what stuff costs new. If it were a new turbo, things would be different....but it's a used 14B. Used 14B's pull no more than $125, and rebuilt 14B's are right around $220.

I heard that. funny thing is he had another add listing it for trade of a GPS or navigation system. LOL
