So pretty much oil light came on and she died, get out oil steam everywhere, look under and insta oil puddle. Towed it to my mech and he pulled the timing belt cover off and the teeth on the belt were shredded. thinks it's because one of the cams froze or something. We think for sure the top end is done and based on the oil we are guessing the bottom is too so it would be cheaper for me to buy a new motor and have him swap them then to pay him to tear this one down just to find out we need to put a new one in.

It's Fwd auto and has been nothing but headaches. Just put a rebuilt tranny in a few months ago which is under warranty thank god because it started acting up too right before. My plan was to make it clean and sell it and get a gsx or something 5 speed awd but now I have no idea what to do. With how much the engine and labor will be do i just cut my losses part it out and put that money towards something else? Or how much would a 6 bolt cost me? i mean i could do that but then i still have an auto fwd and am that much deeper in the whole. Idk i just need advice, obviously my past car decisions haven't took me very far so maybe someone here can help :banghead:

If you have an extra car as DD then its probably better to part it out, cut your loss and go get your GSX or AWD.

For me, I would build a brand new engine by myself after all dsm = Driver slash mechanic.

Also, getting a 6 bolt requires more work then just doing a simple swap so I have heard.

Get more people to chime in before you make your decision.

I'd check local for sale ads, craigslist, junkyard... Having someone do the work for you is why things are so expensive. Do it yourself and save hundreds. You can easily swap in an engine for under a grand. I just pulled an engine and trans using nothing more than basic hand tools, a jack, and a cherry picker. Just make sure you put all the bolts in bags and label them, take lots of pictures when taking stuff apart, label all your wiring connections, and be patient.

I know guys I don't trust many mechanics but this guy is a family friend with a nice shop, he doesn't know much about 4g63t's at all but all he would need is a write up on her to do the swap. When I. Wasn't working 50 hors a week I could drop the tranny etc... but now I have no time. But I still might cut the losses, we'll see

Starting to think I'm going to part it out as heartbreaking as that will be (my first baby). I love dsm's but being my dd and with how much I work they have been nothing but headaches. Looking at subies, anything awd 5 speed idc at this point juust need something that won't break every week
