over heating ie fans not working properly, abuse to the car (even prior befor you bought it) there are a number of things that could have happened.
 
things that can make your head gasket blow are.
-overheating
-old gasket (time)
-overboosting
and as far as a cometic head gasket its possible to blow just as any other head gasket, it just takes longer to blow, because its stronger.
