So about two weeks ago I went to look at some Evo's took the DSM for the trip and clutch let go on me coming home after a few hours of driving a large hill. Got the car home and took it apart that night, the problem was the center hub rivets all fell out. I have had some rattling for some time now thought it was the TOB but I was wrong. I couldn't see any name on the clutch it was a 4 puck unsprung to my surprise and stock appearing pressure plate. I hadn't taken the tranny off prior to this event. Flywheel and pressure plate looked really good not burn marks or deep spots at all. Closest picture I found was a comp stage 4 for a 420. Is it possible they use the same spline and some idiot put the N/T disk in?
Regardless I have parts coming in and cleaning things up with the car. I went with the XTD stage 4 6 puck unsprung with the white pressure plate,OEM TOB, Comp forged fork w/pivot ball. I kept it cheaper this way and heard good things about the XTD stage 4 unsprung. I looking for a Evo so the DSM will be my back up car
. Also changing the power steering boots while under the car and painting some of the tranny mounts.
Ill have the car together in a few days waiting on a box from STM (TOB, Dowel Pin, and Forged Clutch fork). Over all this job was not bad at all so far, pretty straight forward taking the FWD tranny off compared to the AWD.
