I just put a used head on my built engine with a oem head gasket(for now) with ARP studs, and went to fire it up and saw smoke coming from the manifold area, and noticed the coolant lines were all leaking(all about to blow off,all very hard) and water was blowing out of the wategate/02 housing(D/P unhooked).

The head is Tqd to 70lbs.

Turbo is a 20g(I need to update)

Anyideas welcome, I searched for an hour with no ideas. maybee a cracked head would cause this.

Thanks for the reply, I checked compression and it was way off, then pulled the head and turbo(20g tial dump full of water) at TDC the 2 center pistons were full of water.

I have a brand new head from when BJ's was still around I was going to ebay, I just put my 272's in it and will put it on afternoon, it's 5:300AM right now, I've been at it all day and night........

O-and the headgasket was installed correct, I double checked when I pulled the head.

I'm not sure what else would cause that much coolant in the engine and out the exhaust side. How did the intake side look? Were the 2 outer cylinders filled will coolant also?

Dumb question (only because I have seen it done) did you check your thermostat housing and water pipe (under the turbo) for obstructions? this could cause an increase in pressure.
You said it was a used head, what did it come off of? If ic came off a motor that blew up it could have some debris clogging it up somehwere.

It ended at TDC so only the 2 center pistons were filled with out 2 inches of water/coolant after about 10 rev/turn overs before I stopped and saw the water. I had a head I bough off ebay a few months ago with manley springs Ti clips and HKS 272 cams 3glifters etc... It was supposed to be a built low mile head(I got beat).........

I then took the stock head off my old (bad ring) motor and while putting the cams in, I bent a valve by turning the cam with the head on the ground and bent one valve a tad.

So then I carefully took my BJ's head, installed the springs,clips,3glifters and cams, bought another headgasket and bolted it down and will bolt down all the other crap friday morn. I'll let you know if she runs...

And no obstructions in the h20 system, Thanks for the suggestions though.
