Blew my motor so i was looking for other gst "donor" cars. I found a really great one with everything i need for 1900$$. It has a receipt from Feb 8th 2012 of a full rebuild of the motor thats in it. The only problem is it is an automatic and mine is a 5 speed.

my main question is would the auto motor bold right up to my 5 speed? I know it could be a stupid question, but i want to cover my a$$ before getting this donor car.

You can't find an engine cheaper than that? There are plenty of running long blocks for 300-500 dollars. Spending 2k on a car just for the engine is kind of silly. IT will bolt in just fine. You will have to remove the torque converter spacer that is in the end of the crankshaft. You will also have to install a dowel in the crank and bolt your starter plate and flywheel from the 5 speed to it.

1900 is for an entire car.
I need a lot more off of it. The reason why im keeping my actual car is my body is better. but i would be taking the fully functional top from it, motor, motor componants, some interior parts, wheels and tires.

That still is no where close to 1900 dollars worth of parts. You could probably buy everything separately for under a thousand.

With Bryan on that one, you could buy it take what you need and sell the remaining parts. But that takes awhile and there's no saying you'll be able to re-coop the extra money you paid to get the parts you need. Just a little risky in my opinion, there's lots of great people here on tuners that sell stuff for cheap cheap cheap and you possibly could get all your stuff for under 1k.
Any pics or your car and the possible donor? would be helpful.

u could just buy a built shortblock from slowboy or im sure theres othere out there too. i mean if you want it built for power right from the get go, thats a pretty good deal.

The reaon why im going with a "donor" car is because after i swap everything out that i need and put my stuff on it, i can sell it and make most of the money back from it. To the point where i would only technically spend 200$.

if any one can find me a long block with everything i will need, that is low miles or freshly built, please let me know because i agree it is silly to get an entirely new car for just motor and bits. but if the price is a fraction of what i might pay, then id be down

I think it would be just a less of a hassle to just find another motor instead of going through what u want to do. You have a good amount of money so instead of buying a donar car and doing everything u want just find a motor and drop it in.
If memory serves me right DSM Graveyard has a stock rebuilt crate engine with parts they put into it for 2400, or u could just build your own from that site. I just think personally the time u would spent just doing everything would just be to much, besides the point i have a 6 bolt from my 99 gst built that i still havent gotten rid of if you would be interested in that. DSM Graveyard - Your #1 Source for DSM Parts!
Pretty sure thats the link to the crate motor

thanks on the reviews from dsmjunkyard. danielbo91
but i am totally new to dsms, and dont know where to search and whats reliable souces i can count on. i'm in a pinch time wise as this is my only car at the moment. i dont wanna spend more than $1500 really, however i do want a little bit more than stock if im in this position you know. help me find whats good and reliable on a 1500buck budget

thanks again for all the quick replys. its very helpful and meaning full.

Wow thanks daniel so much, i really had NO idea.
I just read through every post and everyone had something bad to say.
Appreciate u telling me I myself was looking into one of there motor builds for a project
but after reading that..hell no.

if u really needa ton of parts off the other car, go for it. i mean if your missing shit everywhere it is nice to have a complete donor car to work with. if you can afford it. otherwise, i was looking at slowboy and you can get a built ass engine for under 3k. itll handle whatever you throw at it. and they have a good rep. god, i sound like a shill for the co LOL.
oooooor, spend around 2600 bucks for parts and labor at a machinist and have a really badass engine.

a totally stock rebuild parts and labor will prob be right around your 1500 mark. maybe a tad more. depends how much you do yourself and how much the machinist does.

Bought the donor car. getting ready to do the swap. Taking apart my current car now and seeing what we need and don't need. Sure I'm going to have a lot of extra parts. So now we see what I can sell off the donor motor and my car. From what I've researched I think I can make my money back. Look for my for sale thread soon.
And quick question, does the dowel pan have to be machined into the crank or can we do it?
