blew 3rd gear all over the highway....

well it is our spec 1-4 helical cut gears.still a synco 5th and reverse.1st-4th runs a non syncro dogbox engagement. We rate our dogbox right around 800whp.After that you would need a ppg straight cut setup.

How "streetable" is this setup? What are the actual issues you run into with putting it around town and down the highway?

I wanna know where these gears come from. Are they just modified mitsu gears?

They are. There is NO way they can sell them for the price they do if they were custom made. I spoke with Liberty about this, and it would be $800 just to have 1-4 face plated, and then new hubs and sliders made. So for $2800, It better have a new 3rd, 4th, intermediate shaft, center diff housing, and all bearings. It takes roughly 3 hrs to completely assemble a W5M33 trans. Including all new bearings, hubs/sliders syncrhos, and shimming.

Im making a 1g oil cooler kit as we speak.

Jack responded to my email today, and all is good. What an awesome guy.

He really wants me to send the trans back so he can fix it and take a look at it.

I talked to him briefly, and we are going to tap the case with some fittings to accomodate my oil cooler idea. I think this is the hot ticket with these gears. He's also going to put in a temperate sending unit to measure actual temperature inside the gearbox.

I'm pretty sure nobody else offers a "no questions asked" warranty on a mitsu gearbox. I'm not in any rush to fix it, but I will have the transmission out soon enough. Im just taking a break from my DSM for a week or two.

So, I will be developing an affordable oil cooler kit that will work with stock return/drain holes or with fittings welded to the case and it should be bolt on as much as possible.

I've got a TRE stage 2 transmission that I bought off a guy and I knew it had a little "grinding" issue but I didn't know it was as bad as it is. After reading about Jack's I'm really thinking about just saving all my money and saying forget the TRE and buying a Jacks. The sad thing is, the guy didn't have the TRE for more than a year. God how I hate the transmission grinding noise going into 3rd and then at WOT and shifting into 4th.
