Blacklight LEDs

hey has anyone had experience with the blacklight leds? i bought some to put in my dash lights. They say they are 50 mcd but i dont think thats right. what do yall think ?

The gauge backing is black (unless you changed it) and blacklights are not exactly high-contrast with black. I don't see how you're going to be able to read your gauges at all at a glance. You may be right about the intensity of the bulb. The #74 blacklight bulbs that www.superbrightleds.com sell are 90mcd, which is a very low intensity, however they're probably very wide-angle bulbs so that they can spread light evenly in an instrument cluster, although other colors go up to 9100mcd.

Black light causes the vitrous humor in human eyeballs to fluoresce. Not really the effect you want coming out of your dashboard in the dark.

I can't even look at blacklights, they make my eyes hurt which results in an instant headache. Everything looks fuzzy when I am around them. Maybe your eyes react differently, but I know it wouldn't work in my dash.

The only way I see this working is if you get rid of the orange paint and replace it with some kind of UV paint.
