I searched the newbie forum for this and didn't get any results. I am putting one back together from the ground up. And wondering if there are any upgrades other than just upgrading rotors and pads for my 98 GSX. I have the factory 17 inch wheels and want to keep them for at least Street use. Planning on using the car just to have fun and go on vacation maybe do a few track days. Suggestions please?

Check out "outlander brake upgrades"
If u want to go bigger, there are cobra brakes, evo brembo brakes, cts-v brakes etc.

For the money I'd recommend the outlander setup. I did front and rear, but rears wouldn't be neccessary. In the future I plan to go back to std awd rotors as the hat depth is different.

Is the Outlander upgrade a direct Bolt-On?

With the outlander brackets, yes.
I recommend getting the centric dual piston calipers for the 05-06 outlander, the ones i got came with the brackets and no core charge, I believe ~$130 per side brand new, then your choice of the corresponding rotors. I bought all of mine online

Thanks I will check into this.
My drive train is all stock on this. I am just starting this build.

I really like my Baer front brake kit. What is real nice about it is the rotors, calipers, pads, and rebuild kits are standard off-the-shelf parts that are OEM on a number of Ford and GM vehicles from 89-02. That means they are in stock everywhere. It also means, if you can borrow a set of Baer-to-2G brake adapter brackets and have a machinist duplicate them, you can buy everything else needed to do the upgrade from NAPA and save a ton of money.

Very important: If you go with these rotors, you MUST get hubcentric rings for them. Without them, the rotors will be free-floating on the wheel hub and all the braking force will be applied to the wheel studs.

That said, if I knew about the Outlander upgrade possibility back in the day, I probably would have done that instead of Baer just because of the lower cost.

Well, yeah. But that kit is 4 pot and the rotors are larger. How is the outlander setup comparable to that?

The OP wants brakes to drive on the street under the stock rims and do trackdays hence why I referred to that kit. Whats your questiom exactly?

Outlander brakes are simply new caliper brackets and larger then stock diameter rotors. Your stock caliper is used. With the larger diameter rotor, brake torque is increased by moving the caliper out. This is probably the best "budget brakes" you can get and with good pads and some ducting, should work decent for an open track day.
