Big turbo or small turbo?

It has come down to this decision. I need ideas because I honestly do not know.

I have a friend with a E.3 16g; it's real, I checked the numbers. He wants $250 for it. I know 16g's are great turbos. MAYBE people use them.

I also know of places I can get an HX35 for close to the same price. Hell, I have another friend with a Borg Warner he was interested in selling for $300.

Now as for the 16g, it does not take MUCH to run it. It is close to factory but it will do work. However, when I DO want to upgrade to a HX35 or Borg Warner of some sort, then I have to spend the extra money for that turbo, and either a hot-side or a manifold.

If it is really needed, I can post the list of parts I plan on using.

He could go with an Hx35/40 with a BEP housing, that would get rid of the t3 manifold.. He did say he could pick up a Holset for around 250-300$

A good buddy of mine (kp116) made over 550 ish whp on an Hx40 pro with the .55a/r BEP housing.. At the time he was on BC 272 cams. Very quick spool up.

Plus going with a DSM flanged hotside it would save you some cash. If you went the holset with BEP route you COULD use a stock ex manifold (ported preferably) or just go with an FP manifold for 275$..

If I were you I would go with an hx35 with a the BEP housing.. Quick spool like you're wanting and potential for high hp numbers.

I can get an older style FP Manifold from a friend, . He is the one I could get the 16g from. He pretty much stripped his car to start his build.

Not a problem! Check out the Holset info threads in the Turbo Systems Tech section for some additional info.. By the time you max out that hot side you will most likely have enough saved up for a different mani and hotside that wont choke up top in the RPM range. Good luck buddy..
