I am thinking about buying this 2g gst that someone has for sale locally he says he has an big evo 3 16g on it how can I tell that apart from the 14b and the small 16g ? Thanks alot.

thanks I can see some minor differences but will I be able to tell this when it is in a car ? and how can I tell it apart from a 14b ? lmk thanks

that's a shitty pic, but the 14B has evenly spaced blades like you might expect.. the 16g has sets of double blades.. if you know what i mean.. instead of evenly spaced single blades, there's dual blades... *sigh*
i'm not gonna dig for a decent pic, so i hope you know what i mean :p

gotcha - 2x as many blades as the 14b that actually helps - so the big 16g has like 14 and the 14b has like 7

The picture posted above by flinguist is that of a 16G, you can not realy see the smaller blades. Both of these turbo's have 12 compressor blades(high/low). Here is two pictures of a 14B compressor wheel on the left, and the 16G on the right. You can see how the 16G has alternating blades. By looking at the 16G from the side, you can see that if you were looking at it from a top angle(such as the pic above), that it would be harder to see the smaller blades.

The evo looks different then the regular 16g's. So I dont know why these people are telling you that. http://slowboyracing.com/Mitsubishi Turbos/EVO 16g/EVO16g.html , look at thet link and tell me they look the same.

Yes, you can tell the difference if you have two side by side. This turbo is on the car. The only way you can realy tell is by the wastegate hole, but if he's purchasing this car, good luck trying to get the person to take the O2 housing off.

exactly my point - I haven't asked if he has a receipt (that would be nice if he did alot of work saved) but ya I mean if that's the only to way to make sure I guess I'll have to ask him to take the O2 housing off - there really isn't any other way (besides taking the turbo off) ?

The exhaust housing top is diff. it is not square like the basic 14, 16, b16 turbos it is more rounded just run your hand around the under side of the exhaust manny and see if it is square or not. :thumb:
