I have a chance to pick up an almost new Big 16g turbo for pretty cheap (less than $300), and I was wondering if I could run it on my set up at stock boost levels, and then turn it up as I increase both fuel and intercooling capabilities. Its an almost stock 95 TSi AWD, and my mods are as follows: Ebay intake pipe w/ open filter, 1g BOV, MBC, boost gauge. I also have a Supra SMIC sitting in my garage, waiting until I decide what turbo housing to go with. What PSI can I run the 16g at with this, and can I run it and gradually turn up boost as my fuel system can keep it fed?

Run 12-14psi on all stock, then after a FP upgrade you could do 16psi, then injectors, and a way to tune them, and larger FP with AFPR and you could run 18+psi...atleast til you hit knock, then I would turn it down 1-2psi.

Thanks for the quick answer Dustin. With the Supra SMIC and no fuel upgrades, would I still be best at 12-14 PSI? or could I turn it up a little bit?

Without a logger, it's hard to tell what you can get away with. That's the only safe way to tell. Also, your limiting factor with your planned setup won't be that the intercooler is heat soaking. Instead, you'll be fighting insufficient fuel supply on the stock injectors. I didn't start heat soaking my stock sidemount until I consistently pushed 21-22 psi. Leave the boost at stock levels until you can log and once you add injectors and a pump, you'll find that the heatsoak will be the limiting factor in how much boost you can run and not fuel supply. Right now, fuel supply will hold you back more than anything. In the meantime, 12-14 psi should be OK, but please log it to be sure.

Make sense?

I say just buy the parts and let them sit untill you can do it right.

Sure you can push more with a logger but then you gotta monitor it all the time.

If it was me, i would buy any good deal you can find even if you cant put it on the 16g for example. There is no reason why you HAVE to put it on.

go in this order (this is what i would / did do)

logger
intercooler (since you have it already)
fuel pump (190 or stock evo, stealth, supra)
injectors (550 or 660)
safc
eprom (make tuning easier
turbo (all supporting mods are done)

Just my opinion

Yes, I should have mentioned a logger is a very good idea, its a great idea for a stock car. Always clearing up my messes Andy:p Thanks:)

Not sure about the stealth pump but he would need an AFPR for the Supra TT pump.

At 14v its rated at 290, at 12v it flows the 260...its really a Denso 260lph. Just checked out the 3000gt fuel pump, and its rated at 180, so that would be fine.

Well, I already have the EPROM ECU (95), but what's the best Palm-based logger besides pocketlogger? I have a Palm IIIe, but I haven't really been able to find anything to log with it? Also, would stock Evo injectors work? I was planning on picking up a 3000gt VR4 pump for relatively cheap, and I won't need a regulator for that, right? My eventual plan is 300awhp.

If you want 300 awhp then basically just copy my mod list. Your goals are very similar to mine. Stock evo injectors will work on your car but idk if its enough for 300 awhp. I was maxing my 550's out at 19 psi on the 16g. The evo injectors are 560's which i still dont think is enough. 660 or 720's will work fine. Before you get injectors burn a chip for the eprom so you can compensate for the injectors it makes tuning easier along with how the car runs in general.

I would go to www.dsmchips.com and talk with Jeff. He can make to a chip for custom afr, and timing maps, it will be the cheapest. Yes you can go with a 3000gt pump, they flow 180lph on 12v. The stock EVO injectors will work, but its up in the air as to if you will reach your goal with them. I highly, highly, highly recommend getting a logger, without a logger I wouldn't even be upping the boost. The EVO injectors tend to flow more around 580cc just so you know. Also as far as the pumps go, if you can pick up the 300gt one for a decent amount less then you can for a wally 190 get it, if it is like a 20$ price different just get the wally 190. Also with how far you can take this set-up all depends on how good the tune is, but you will need a logger when pushing these things.

Thanks for all your input, guys. It looks like I'm gonna pass on the turbo for now and set up the fuel first. No need to be wasting miles on it without proper set up, or to have it collect dust and drain my cash flow. If I decide to go with an SAFC and a Wideband 02, will I need an ECU reflash?

wideband is sorta pointless at your current stage.

and for the reflash. You have to get your eprom ecu socketed and have a new chip burn, but you really only need that if you get bigger injectors. Sure you can run the injectors without it but the car will run better.
