I'm looking for a LOUD functional blow off valve. have any suggestions. im looking for something in GReddy. Maybe R or RS.

Also im looking for a good small full auto turbo timer. maybe Blitz or Apexi. let me know

Get a 1G BOV, they're cheap and they hold boost fine up to 23 psi.

All timers will do the same thing, so it doesn't matter which one you get, I say ditch the timer. Don't go full blast when you're near your destination and let it idle for 60 seconds (minimum) before you shut the engine off.

he said he wanted a loud bov, a greddy. not a 1g. and he said he wants a timer just asking opinions on which one to get. u should reply to the questions instead of just stating your opinions.

I have a Greddy type RS bov on my gst. it isnt very loud recirculated though, dont know how a type S sounds, im assuming about the same. the RS is an excellent bov though. it is holding boost on mine at about 21 no prob. right now. u were also asking about a timer. i have the Greddy timer. like quasimondo said, they all do about the same thing. but so far the Greddy hasnt given me any problems, and it is a fairly small timer. hope this helps

go to www.blowoffvalves.com and be your own judge. They got some sound files over there.
Personally, I would go with the greddy type-s but if you want a LOUD one get the turboxs's R bov.

A BOV isn't meant for sound. A greddy type R will handle just about anything you throw at it. If you're going to mod just for sound and looks, don't do it. If you've got the mods and need the support of a BOV like the type s or r, then get it. If you don't, be smart and spend the money on something you actually need and will get you more hp.

No matter what BOV he gets, he's going to have to recirculate it, and it's not going to be loud when it's recirc. If he has a blow-thru setup or VPC, a 1G is going to be loud enough.

Just trying to save him some $$$, that's all.

im looking to run about 10+ boost for now and eventually more. i plan on getting the 3" GM and the MAF Translator. im obviously going to do a blow by setup so i can vent to the atmosphere. i just want something that looks good. can hold boost well. and will sound good. and for the turbo timer i just wanted something for peace of mind in case i foget to idle the car for a little while before shutting it off. with that i want something small and easy to use. i just bought a 91 talon AWD turbo with a little over 100 thousand miles. im going to start out with a few minor upgrades. and i wouldnt be buying the blow off valve or MAF translator anytime soon i just wanted to know for future reference

By the way whats the best turbo for a DSM Big 16G EVO III 16G or 18G? by best turbo i mean all around. least turbo lag, most power with right upgrades. Best bang for your buck i guess.

I agree, your stock blow off valve will work perfectly. Just remember to do maintence before modding. Has your timing belt been changed recently? Plugs? Wires? Oil? Coolant?
Do it first, or you will be paying later :nono: :thumb:

You cant ask what the best all around anything is. Parts should be selected based on your specific wants / needs. There are so many post on here about BOVs that you can find all your info without questions. Same deal with turbo selection. :talon:

My Type S is pretty loud, and it's recirculated.

Hi guys, I just figured out yesterday how to vent my bov into the atmosphere AND MY CAR HOLDS BOOST AND RUNS BETTER THAN EVER... I am even sure i feel a HP difference. MY BOV is very loud and it only cost me around 5 bucks to do. Let me know if anyone would like me to explain. ROFL

WTF for, you wanna rainbow airfreshener and a neon tube shift knob too? whats with this loud blowoff valve crap. im up to my a$$ in rice :boring:
If it bothers you so much, why reply?, I quit replying to you eariler

95eclipsegirl,

He was asking you if you were kidding about the hp increase you felt from venting to the atmosphere, because in no way are you going to feel a hp increase from venting to the atmosphere. It doesn not add hp. It just makes a bov louder. Bov's on our cars aren't meant to be vented to the atmosphere, when you do it there is an unaccounted air loss by the maf. That's why when you vent a 1g bov to the atmosphere your car will stall when the the rpms's drop from like over 2 grand down to idle speed, ex. putting it in neutral when crusing and slowing down for a stop sign or whatever.

Espoc19, when sjgYFZ200 mentioned getting all the normal maintenance done, i agree. Get the timing belt checked, change your plugs, check everything. Make sure your transfer case still has enough fluid. A little over 100 thousand miles is great for a 91, you don't want it getting screwed up. Treat her good.

thanks everyone for your help. i think im going to just buy a MAF translator and vent the stock blow off valve to the atmosphere

i wasnt trying to tell him not to recirculate, sorry bout the confusion there. i agree a 1g bov will save quite a bit of money. but it sounds to me like he's just wanting a loud bov.

to the poster of this thread:
if ur just wanting a loud bov u need to search on some of the threads on venting to atm. most ppls have lots of problems with this. if u are going to run a blow-through set up like u were talking bout then that would be fine. a stock bov or 1g should be fine for u for a while if ur only wanting to run 10psi for the time being.

I beg to differ...you DO gain hp and tq by venting....

As for the original thread, I would recommend a Greddy Type-S...You can hear what is sounds like on my dyno vid...just do a search for it (98turbo dyno)
